Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Manager Records and Information Governance at Museums Victoria.

ABOUT MUSEUMS VICTORIA:

Ever dreamed of working in a place where dinosaurs roam, stars explode, and the world’s most intriguing stories come to life? Welcome to Museums Victoria (MV)—where every day is a new opportunity to create unforgettable experiences. As one of the southern hemisphere’s largest and most iconic museum organisations, we’re not just about exhibits; we’re about engaging, immersive moments that spark curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Home to the awe-inspiring Melbourne Museum, the culturally rich Immigration Museum, the mind-expanding Scienceworks, and the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, MV is a place where events transform spaces and stories into something truly unmissable. Join a passionate team that brings ideas to life and makes discovery part of everyday experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Manager, Records and Information Governance is responsible for managing Museums Victoria’s records and information management program, promoting effective recordkeeping practices across the organisation, and providing advice and guidance to ensure compliance with information governance requirements, including information security and privacy. The role leads the ongoing development and implementation of a best‑practice records information and data management framework, driving greater staff participation in recordkeeping and improving the accessibility of Museums Victoria’s records. This position ensures that organisational risk is minimised and that all legislative, regulatory, and government requirements are met.

You will join a small, supportive, engaged team of professionals with a shared interest in improving management of and access to MV records and data and information assets.

In this role, you will:

- Lead and manage Museums Victoria’s records and information management program, ensuring compliance with governance, information security, and privacy requirements.

- Maintain and enhance the organisation’s information asset register, classification systems, and information and data lifecycle management processes.

- Provide specialist advice and guidance on recordkeeping, information governance, and privacy—particularly in relation to Microsoft SharePoint and digital recordkeeping practices.

- Develop, implement, and review records, data and information management policies, procedures, and frameworks to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with legislation and government standards.

- Lead projects that enhance information management maturity across the organisation, in alignment with the Knowledge, Information and Data Management Framework.

- Deliver staff training and communication programs on recordkeeping, information security, and the use of systems such as Content Manager and SharePoint.

- Oversee the appraisal, disposal, and archival management of Museums Victoria’s records.

- Supervise staff and volunteers within the Records and Information Governance team.

The successful applicant will have:

- Demonstrated experience managing a records and information management service within a complex organisation.

- Strong knowledge of best‑practice records management and information governance principles, with an understanding of the Victorian Public Sector requirements.

- Hands‑on experience with administration of electronic document and records management systems and Microsoft SharePoint.

- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver practical solutions.

- Proven experience leading change in information management systems and processes.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and train and support staff.

- Experience supervising teams and fostering a collaborative, compliance‑focused culture.

- A tertiary qualification in records or information management (or a related field) is highly regarded.
