About the Role
This 12-month fixed‑term, full‑time role leads event safety operations across Sydney Showground and the RAS by driving proactive risk management, compliance and readiness for exhibitions, concerts, sporting fixtures and the Sydney Royal Easter Show – one of the largest ticketed annual events in the Southern Hemisphere.
Reporting to the WHS Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Events & Venue Operations, collaborating with Floor Managers, clients, contractors and suppliers to plan and deliver safe events. From pre‑event risk assessments and contractor inductions to on‑floor guidance and incident response, you will help make safety simple, practical and visible for everyone on site.
This is a highly collaborative, hands‑on role where you’ll gain exposure to emergency planning, compliance audits, stakeholder training and continuous improvement projects – all within a fast‑paced venue environment where no two days are the same. Your contribution will directly impact the safety and experience of thousands of exhibitors and millions of visitors each year.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement of the A Safe Show For Everyone (ASSFE) safety system.
- Monitor adherence to RAS WHS policies and procedures across all event phases (bump‑in, live, bump‑out).
- Conduct pre‑event inspections for high‑risk activities; attend compliance walk‑throughs with Floor Managers and clients, providing on‑the‑spot guidance.
- Coordinate inductions and ensure contractors, suppliers and clients understand onsite operational and safety requirements.
- Perform risk assessments, recommend controls, and investigate incidents, injuries and hazards; prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support venue‑wide risk assessments (Sydney Showground and Sydney Royal Easter Show); contribute to WHS Committee and quarterly safety reviews.
- Plan and deliver emergency management training and evacuation drills with the WHS Manager; act as Area/Deputy Warden when required.
- Participate in annual updates to venue operational regulations to align with legislation and best practice.
Roster & flexibility: This role works to an event‑based roster requiring evening, weekend, and public holiday availability.
About You
- Strong commitment to service excellence, attention to detail, and a proactive “safety first” mindset.
- Effective communicator with well‑developed negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills; able to collaborate across internal teams, clients, suppliers, and emergency services.
- High energy, diplomacy, integrity, and problem‑solving capability; calm under pressure in live event environments.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years in venue operations, event operations, WHS or risk management (events/venues/public safety preferred).
- Tertiary qualification in WHS, Risk Management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in compliance auditing and incident investigation.
- Knowledge of WHS Act 2011 (NSW) and relevant regulations; familiarity with SafeWork NSW procedures/reporting.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing abilities.
- Confident with Microsoft Office.
