Salary: $85,807- $96,869 per annum

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking a proactive and community-focused Waste Management Officer - Collection to support the Manager Waste and Recycling Services in delivering the outcomes of Council’s Regional Waste Management Strategy. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable environmental practices and enhance the customer experience across our waste services.

Responsibilities

- Deliver exceptional customer service to residents using Council’s Waste Management Services

- Stay up to date with relevant legislation and ensure compliance across waste collection and disposal operations

- Supervise contractors and site staff to ensure high standards and legal obligations are met

- Support the implementation of Council’s Waste Management Strategy, including priority actions and planning

- Promote waste and recycling awareness through education programs and community engagement

Qualifications

Essential

1. C Class Manual Drivers Licence

2. Demonstrated experience in contract management and administration

3. A sound knowledge of operational aspects of waste collection vehicle types including but not limited to manoeuvrability, clearances and access limitations

4. Demonstrated experience in waste collection facility operations

5. Ability to manage time, work independently balancing competing demands and capacity to adapt readily to change

6. Well developed verbal communication skills including the ability to foster staff and community participating in the implementation of waste and resource recovery education programs and initiatives.

Desirable

1. Knowledge of Council policies, organisational structure and functions, interpretation of legislation and regulations

2. Knowledge of environmental monitoring and assessment

3. Knowledge of waste management facility operations
