An exciting opportunity exists to join the Emergency Department at Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District
ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam. All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program. Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven/'s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
Wollongong is located an hour/'s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed, acute facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a day surgery unit. The hospital also provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services. Construction is underway for the development of the new Shellharbour Hospital.

Shoalhaven Hospital is a busy rural hospital which employs over 1,000 staff and is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services. Shoalhaven Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is currently undergoing a $438 million redevelopment.
What you/'ll be doing
To provide emergency medical care to patients while developing experience and expertise under the supervision of Emergency Specialists within ISLHD. This is a District position and may involve (with the agreement of the candidate) working at any one of the following sites - Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital and Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Emergency Departments. Candidates will be asked for a working site preference at interview.
The position of Unaccredited Trainee would suit a junior doctor of at least 3 years post graduate experience who wishes to gain clinical experience and training in Emergency Medicine prior to formal critical care training. The Unaccredited Trainee will participate in a seven-day per week roster which includes evening and night shifts and will demonstrate proficiency in the initial assessment and management of all medical and surgical emergencies in paediatric and adult patients.

Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- At least three years/' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
- Significant experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective oral and written communication skills and demonstrated good organisational and time management skills
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the District to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 7 day per week / 24 hours per day shift work roster
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
