Summary

We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter and Turner on behalf of our client, Hillcroft Farms Pty Ltd, a progressive mixed farming enterprise based in Lol Gray, Western Australia. This is a full-time, permanent role that involves precision fitting, machining, and maintenance of critical farm machinery, mechanical systems, and equipment used in broadacre cropping and livestock production.

About the Role

This hands-on position is responsible for machining, fitting, and maintaining various components and systems across the farm's mechanical infrastructure—including harvesters, seeders, trucks, feed mills, irrigation, and other farm machinery. The successful applicant will work in a fully equipped on-site farm workshop and contribute to minimising machinery downtime across the business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Aligned with ANZSCO 323212 - Fitter and Turner, responsibilities include:

- Assembling, fitting, and repairing metal parts and components to maintain farm machinery and infrastructure
- Operating lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate or modify replacement parts
- Dismantling and assessing components such as shafts, pulleys, and gears for wear or failure
- Interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints to manufacture or fit parts to exact specifications
- Performing preventative maintenance and mechanical servicing of fixed plant and mobile equipment
- Welding and fabricating custom parts and equipment as required
- Ensuring machinery and components meet manufacturer and operational tolerances
- Recording service and repair work performed, and maintaining workshop documentation
- Maintaining safe working practices and compliance with WHS regulations
- Assisting with the installation of new machinery and upgrades to existing farm systems

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be eligible for this role, applicants must meet one of the following:

- Hold an AQF Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitter and Turner) or equivalent overseas qualification
- OR have at least 3 years of full-time relevant work experience in a Fitter and Turner role (preferably in an agricultural, manufacturing or industrial environment)

Required Skills and Attributes

- Proven experience in machining and precision fitting
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and rotating equipment
- Proficiency in the operation of manual and semi-automated machine tools
- Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, stick or TIG)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and diagrams
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently and within a small, diverse team
- Manual driver's licence required; HR licence advantageous
