About Your Opportunity

As the Senior Water Security Modeller, you will lead comprehensive modelling assessments to ensure water security across Southeast Queensland. Collaborating with internal and external technical subject matter experts, you will analyse modelling outcomes related to regulated Level of Service objectives, yield assessments, and water storage capacities to support long‑term water planning. Your role will involve maintaining water supply models that are accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose, while addressing the region’s specific water security needs. You will also seek opportunities to improve and coordinate new model development with government stakeholders, implementing innovative solutions and methodologies to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of water security assessments.

Key responsibilities:

- Use advanced modelling tools, techniques and methodologies to analyse outcomes, improve model development, and implement innovative solutions that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of water security assessments.

- Interpret and evaluate water supply modelling outcomes to provide expert advice for Seqwater’s Water Security Program, business case development, and stakeholder initiatives.

- Coordinate and manage significant water supply modelling projects within multi‑functional teams, developing least‑cost optimisation strategies to ensure appropriate water quality and quantity.

- Provide professional advice on government policy, legislation, and regulation, using modelling outcomes to formulate strategies and recommendations for long‑term SEQ water supply planning.

- Ensure water supply models are accurate, reliable, and fit for purpose by managing a modelling assurance framework, overseeing change management, and leading internal and external audits.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

- Tertiary qualification in Science, Maths or Engineering discipline.

- Minimum of 10 years of professional modelling experience, including extensive data analysis and interpretation of modelling results.

- Proven expertise in stochastic modelling for large and complex systems.

- Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑functional project teams and translate water security impacts into business case development.

- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and advising internal and external stakeholders.

- High‑level analytical and statistical interpretation skills, with proficiency in statistical packages and water supply models.

- Ideally, experience in hydrological modelling using tools such as IQQM, WATHNET (RSM), GoldSim or eWater Source to undertake Level‑of‑Service water security assessments.

This role will be offered on a 24‑month fixed term contract basis, with a competitive salary, plus 12.75% superannuation.

Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other medical/character requirements. Please note that people with criminal records are not automatically deemed ineligible. Each application will be considered on its merits.
