Selection Criteria

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology, and knowledge and experience of educational psychology assessments and therapeutic support and intervention for students (individual and small-group, as appropriate) with a wide range of additional needs in (including students with intellectual disabilities, mental health needs, behavioural difficulties, trauma, ADHD, ASD, ODD and PDA) a school environment.

2. Understanding of, and experience working with students aged 4-13 with a variety of needs, including the ability to provide specialist advice on appropriate goals, teaching strategies, adjustments and accommodations for students. (for example, those with an intellectual disability or autism spectrum disorder)

3. Highly developed communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop positive relationships with students, families, colleagues and other professionals, and to work as a valued and trusted member of a team.

Role

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The Psychologist will be responsible for:

Screening and Assessment

- Screen and/or assess students presenting with a range of cognitive, behavioural or developmental difficulties.
- Conduct assessments to support Disability Inclusion Profiles for individual students, ensuring accurate and timely completion of any assessment reports and Record of Specialist Involvement documentation.
- Provide verbal and written assessment feedback to parents and school staff, as appropriate.

Collaboration and Consultation

- Collaborate with teachers, ES staff, and relevant professionals on the delivery of intervention and support for students in need.
- Provide ongoing consultation with the Leadership team, DI Leading Teachers and Wellbeing Assistant Principal, teachers, staff, parents, and other professionals regarding support strategies.
- Provide advice to colleagues on recommended strategies, adjustments and modifications to classroom tasks to meet diverse student needs.
- Participate in Student Support Group (SSG) meetings, as required.
- Develop relevant resources and assist staff and parents to use these to support student progress.

Therapy and Intervention: Integrated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (IMTSS)

- Design and deliver targeted intervention and therapy for individual students and small groups, as required.
- Support the analysis and evaluation of whole school tier 2 and 3 interventions on individual and whole-school student learning.
- Maintain accurate written progress notes in accordance with school requirements.

Professional Standards and Learning

- Up to date registration with thePsychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Regularly update and extend knowledge and skills through professional learning and development.

Location Profile

Donnybrook Primary School opened in January 2023 and is located in Donnybrook, 32 kilometres north of Melbourne. We have a current enrolment of 516 students across 24 classes from Foundation to Grade 6 and anticipate an enrolment in excess of 650 students for the beginning of 2026. We are located in a new residential estate on an expansive 3.5 hectare site, just a short walk from the popular Gumnut Park and Adventure Playground. Our school is surrounded by an engaged, vibrant, supportive community.
