Principal Environmental Scientist - Environmental Approvals and Compliance

Queensland (Brisbane), Home & Office-Based

Summary

EHS Support is seeking and environmental professional with 15+ years of experience in Queensland and Commonwealth resource approvals and compliance to help us deliver a range of approvals and compliance support to clients.

Who We Are

EHS Support is a global team of engineers, scientists and technical professionals who specialise in complex environmental challenges across a wide array of industries and service areas. As innovative professionals in our fields, we challenge conventions and strive to find more efficient and effective approaches to environmental compliance and management. We’re problem solvers and we’re passionate about what we do.

Why We Are

EHS Support was founded back in 2005 because we wanted to create a different kind of company — one that was focused on providing solutions through long-term relationships and by treating both clients and employees with an unmatched level of respect. We wanted to solve complex technical problems through entrepreneurial concepts and unconventional ideas. We wanted to provide clients with unequalled service and expertise. Last but not least, we wanted to help our employees grow and thrive in their careers. In essence, we wanted to provide value — value to our employees in the form of opportunity and security, and value to our clients in the form of practical, effective, long-term solutions.

What We Do

We partner with our clients to develop technical solutions that address their unique business challenges. Some of our key service areas include contaminated land site assessment and remediation, hydrogeological assessment and services, expert witness and litigation support, risk assessment and toxicology, sediment assessment and remediation, and liability cost estimation and assurance.

About Our Team

EHS Support has diversity of experts in the fields of engineering, geology, chemistry, toxicology, risk assessment, finance and others. We have a global presence, with teams based in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, U.K., South Africa and Australia (including offices in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia).

About the Role

EHS Support is looking for a Principal Environmental Scientist to join our Australian Approvals and Compliance team. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues from both EHS Support and AES (an integrated EHS Support company) to deliver approvals and compliance projects nationwide, whilst serving as a focal point for Queensland-based clients and projects. Projects will be focused on the resources sector, but there will also be opportunities to work in the development and sustainable energy sectors. This role has a strong business development component and offers the opportunity to grow and lead a Queensland-based approvals and compliance team, leveraging national expertise to deliver projects. You will also work closely with senior leadership to help realise our vision of being recognised as a top-tier provider of primary and secondary approvals. The work activities will be primarily office-based, although occasional travel for field-based work may be required. This position may also present opportunities to contribute to EHS Support’s developing business in decarbonisation/carbon transition, ESG and environmental offsets.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop technical proposals and strengthen client relationships through business development.
- Develop new lines of service delivery leveraging your complementary skills and expertise with the national EHS Support/AES team.
- Assist in capacity-building and development of a high performing national compliance and approvals team.
- Lead environmental impact assessments and complex approvals processes.
- Manage projects within scope, budget, and quality standards.
- Mentor junior and mid-level consultants to build their expertise in environmental approvals and compliance.
- Foster collaboration within AES and EHS Supports multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional results.

Key Requirements

- A degree in a science, engineering or legal discipline
- 15+ years of experience in Queensland and Commonwealth environmental approvals (both primary and secondary approvals)
- Strong understanding of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation.
- Proven ability to build and sustain client relationships.
- Experience within resources sectors preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and strategic thinking skills.
- Great eye for detail, a sense of practicality in regard to legislative and technical interpretation, and the ability to find pragmatic solutions.
- Authorisation to work in Australia (applications are open to Australian and New Zealand Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents)

EHS Support is focused on creating a work environment in which everyone is included, accepted, respected and treated fairly. We are an equal opportunity employer and recognise that diversity includes gender, age, race, disability status, sexual orientation, religion, neurodiversity, education levels, and many more aspects of your identity.
