About the role

The Cloud Engineer will support the design, implementation, and management of the University's cloudinfrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft Azure. The role ensures efficient, secure, and scalable cloud services to support critical systems and university initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the implementation and operation of Azure infrastructure components including compute, storage,networking, identity, and monitoring.
- Manage and optimise hybrid cloud integrations, including Azure AD Connect, VPNs, and network peering.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates.
- Monitor and tune cloud workloads for cost efficiency, performance, and availability.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell or Python to streamline operational tasks.
- Investigate and resolve cloud-related incidents and participate in root cause analysis.
- Implement and monitor cloud security controls in line with University policies and Azure best practices.
- Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation for cloud systems and configurations.

Qualifications, skills & experience

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering roles, including demonstrated Azure experience.
- Proven hands-on experience in deploying and managing Azure cloud services in production environments.
- Strong knowledge and application of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates.
- Experience with hybrid environments, Active Directory, Azure AD, and identity federation.
- Advanced scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Microsoft Azure certification (e.g., AZ-104 or AZ-305) or equivalent industry certification is highly desirable.
- Deep understanding of core Azure services including Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, AzureNetworking, Azure Monitor, and Azure AD
