The Role
The Community Strengthening and Partnerships Worker will support MiCare staff in the planning, coordination, and implementation of community strengthening and capacity-building activities for migrants and refugees of new and emerging communities. The role will engage with community groups, associations, and members to assess their needs, facilitate group activities, provide culturally appropriate support and referrals, and assist in the delivery of programs within Migrant Services and the Settlement Team.

What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
Appropriate Tertiary diploma/certificate qualification in Community Services, Community development or other relevant human/social sciences and/or equivalent demonstrated experience
Knowledge
Understanding and commitment to the needs of migrant and refugee communities, especially those from new and emerging communities, with a focus on supporting their settlement and community development.
- Familiarity with systemic and structural barriers faced by new and emerging communities in Australia, particularly in the context of accessing resources, forming partnerships, and building community capacity.
- Knowledge of community development and engagement approaches within the settlement context, including strategies for empowering community groups to identify and leverage their strengths.
- Understanding of intersectional approaches focusing on race, gender, culture, and linguistic diversity, and how these factors intersect to shape the experiences and needs of community members.
- Awareness of best practice approaches to community strengthening and capacity building, including promoting community leadership and resilience.
- Basic understanding of current Commonwealth and State policies related to immigration, settlement, income support, Child Safe Standards, MARAM Framework, and Information Sharing Schemes, with the ability to follow organizational procedures and respond flexibly to changing policy needs.
Essential skills
- Capacity to engage and support community groups and members by facilitating group consultations, workshops, and community activities that address identified needs and promote community participation.
- Experience in coordinating and supporting project activities, including assisting with the planning and implementation of community initiatives, and providing logistical support to ensure project objectives are met.
- Ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups, adapting communication and engagement approaches to suit different cultural contexts and community needs.
- Experience in assisting with grant applications, reporting, and project documentation, including gathering relevant information, data collection, and contributing to evaluation processes.
- Ability to provide guidance and support to volunteers and community leaders, helping them to build their capacity and effectively contribute to community projects and initiatives.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, including managing participant registrations, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating communication with community members.
- Good verbal communication skills, interpersonal abilities, and relationship-building skills, with a focus on developing trust and positive connections with community members and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and online communication platforms, to support program delivery and communication.
- The ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment.
- A preparedness to work to the 10 principles of the Eden Alternative philosophy.
- Self-motivated with a flexible, caring and patient attitude.
Desirable Requirements
Experience

- Lived experience of migration, and resettlement, and/or capacity to speak a relevant community language
