The Head of Construction will play a pivotal role in delivering this project, ensuring that all project objectives are met while adhering to the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental stewardship.
Job Description
The Head of Construction is responsible for delivering the construction aspects of the project, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, on schedule, and within budget. This role requires the individual to provide leadership and direction to the construction team, including Area Construction Managers, while ensuring effective partnership with senior management and external partners.
The successful candidate will manage the interface with external partners, holding them accountable for project delivery while ensuring the Owners' team is adequately resourced and skilled to meet the construction schedule. The Head of Construction will oversee the scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring that safety and environmental regulations are strictly followed throughout the project lifecycle.
Another key responsibility is implementing robust quality control processes, ensuring that all construction activities adhere to industry standards and project specifications. The Head of Construction will also manage contracts with subcontractors, ensuring adherence to terms and conditions, while tracking expenses and managing the project's financial performance. Regular reporting, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates on team performance and progress, is required, as well as the management of team performance and setting objectives for direct reports.
The Head of Construction will also collaborate with regional teams and peers, contributing to broader safety initiatives, and actively working on succession planning and employee development within the team. Additionally, the role will involve ad hoc work and assignments as required by the business, including supporting other regional teams and contributing to broader organizational goals.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate for this role will have at least 10 years of relevant experience in managing large-scale construction projects, with a proven track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget. The candidate will have extensive experience overseeing the full lifecycle of construction projects, with particular expertise in managing interfaces with external partners and subcontractors. Strong leadership skills are essential, as the individual will be responsible for leading a team of Area Construction Managers and ensuring the Owners' team is well-resourced and skilled to meet the project's schedule.
- A deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and best practices is necessary, as well as experience with scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, capable of providing clear reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance summaries.
- The candidate will be highly committed to safety, with experience in implementing and maintaining strict safety and environmental regulations. They should be able to identify risks and establish risk mitigation processes, ensuring the safety of both employees and the broader community. Additionally, they will be expected to set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), taking corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of business objectives.
- Experience in succession planning and the development of team members is critical, as the Head of Construction will be responsible for ensuring that the construction team is prepared for future leadership roles. The successful candidate will also be expected to be a role model for professional behavior, upholding the company's core values of integrity, responsibility, and accountability.
Qualifications

- Master's degree in Project Management, Engineering, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
