Council of the City of Sydney, Australia PTW Architects Full time

PTW Architects are an award-winning practice with several high-profile mixed-use, multi-residential and hospitality projects in the pipeline. We are now seeking a highly capable and experienced Senior Project Architect to join our Sydney studio.

This is an excellent opportunity to advance your career in a highly creative work environment, contributing to significant city-making residential projects. You will work closely with the Project Director and a talented team across all project phases — from concept through to construction — while being mentored into more senior leadership positions.

About the role

As an experienced Senior Project Architect, you will lead the concept, schematic and design development phases of projects, ensuring that client briefs are executed to the highest standard. This pivotal role requires strong strategic design expertise, team leadership and a passion for innovative architectural solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead architectural projects through all phases: concept design, documentation, approvals, tendering and construction.
- Manage and mentor internal project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing studio culture.
- Oversee project documentation, consultant coordination and ensure compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and clear leadership, acting as the primary client contact throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide strategic design direction and project framing in early stages, aligning client goals with regulatory, site, and budgetary constraints.
- Maintain quality control across all aspects of design and delivery.
- Effectively manage project timelines, budgets, and risks through to completion.
- Contribute to the refinement of internal processes, QA systems and continuous improvement of design and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with Practice Directors to help shape project strategy and the broader direction of the studio.

What you will bring to the team

- Registered Architect in Australia, with 10+ years post-graduate experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading high-quality, complex, multi-residential (Class 2) projects.
- Proven ability to deliver projects through all stages, including construction administration.
- Proficient in Revit, with strong documentation and coordination skills.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities, with the confidence to lead internal teams and external stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of NCC, SEPP65, ADG, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience managing project budgets, programming and mitigating risks.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior staff in their development.
- DBP Practitioner registration is advantageous but not essential.
