Overview
Applications are invited for a 0.2 EFT Instrumental Music Coordinator located in the metropolitan North Eastern Victoria Region (NEVR). The role will be based at the NEVR Music Office, Mullauna Secondary College, Springfield Road, Mitcham, and will support schools across the region in delivering effective instrumental music programs.
Position Details
Classification: Classroom Teacher Range 2
Time Fraction: 0.2 (one day per week, Wednesday or Thursday)
Special Payment: $2,000 Annual Special Payment and $1,000 Annual Travel Allowance (January‑December)
Funding Period: 27 January 2026 – 9 July 2027
Effective Dates: 27 January 2026 – 9 July 2027
Responsible to: NEVR Metro Instrumental Music Committee of Management
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, identify, and recommend opportunities for improvement in instrumental music.
- Contribute to team and project plans, applying specialised knowledge of policy, programs, and initiatives.
- Ensure allocated tasks and projects are high‑quality, met within required timelines, and optimally use available resources.
- Monitor and evaluate issues, consult with stakeholders, and provide advice on instrumental music provision throughout the NEVR region.
- Collaborate with the NEVR principals’ reference group to identify issues, recognise improvement opportunities, and initiate actions.
- Regularly report on accountabilities and outcomes.
- Participate in the annual Performance and Development Plan review process.
Specific Duties
- Provide a coordinated regional instrumental music program for teachers and schools, advising the principals’ reference group and regional leadership on service needs and issues.
- Advise on instrumental music staffing needs, teaching allocations, curriculum priorities, and other music education matters.
- Organise professional development for instrumental music teachers in the NEVR.
- Assist schools with all aspects of their instrumental music programs to ensure continuous improvement of student learning.
- Maintain computer‑based materials and databases related to school music programs and staffing (Microsoft Excel, Word, Filemaker‑Pro and Adobe Design software are advantageous).
- Support NEVR events such as the annual NEVR Youth Concert and workshops, working to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment and occasionally on weekends.
- Produce a regular NEVR instrumental music teacher newsletter.
- Advise music coordinators/principals on preparing reports and submissions related to instrumental music (e.g., the annual IM school survey), oversee a portfolio of schools, and coordinate school visits at least yearly if required (driver’s licence and reliable vehicle essential).
- Carry out other duties as requested by the NEVR principals’ reference group and regional leadership.
- Classroom Teaching Responsibilities (may include but not limited to):
- Direct teaching of groups and individual students.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum areas or programs.
- Undertake other classroom teaching and organisational duties as determined by the School Principal.
- Participate in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.
- Undertake other non‑teaching supervisory duties.
Selection Criteria
1. High knowledge of the curriculum, including literacy and numeracy integration, and ability to respond to student learning needs.
2. Ability to plan and implement high‑impact teaching strategies, evaluate learning outcomes, and assess student progress.
3. Skill in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform practice, and providing feedback to students and parents.
4. Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
5. Alignment with Department values; reflective practice and engagement in professional learning.
6. Contemporary knowledge and experience leading instrumental music programs, understanding of student learning, resourcing, and program sustainability across schools.
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach instrumental music.

Qualification Requirements
1. Provisional or full registration approved by the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
2. For those who completed an Australian postgraduate‑level initial teaching program on or after 1 January 2024, proof of satisfactory completion of an accredited initial teacher education program is required.
3. Graduates of a Victorian Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program after 1 July 2016 must demonstrate completion of the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) if part of the ITE program.
