About the job
Our Engineering Studies team are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with High Voltage Expertise, to provide expert technical support within our Electrical Engineering discipline. In this role, you will deliver high-level technical investigations, design input, system development, and advisory services across all aspects of electrical infrastructure and standards.

About the Person
You are a seasoned electrical engineering professional with deep expertise in high voltage systems and infrastructure. With a strong background in technical investigations, design, and compliance, you bring a proactive and solutions-focused mindset to complex engineering challenges. You thrive in collaborative environments, and your ability to interpret and apply electrical standards ensures safe, reliable, and efficient outcomes. Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing high voltage expertise specialising in technical support across the Corporation in high voltage electrical systems, including investigation, design review, auditing, and vendor evaluation to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.
- Lead and promote Safety in Design (SiD) principles and Work Health Safety (WHS) standards throughout the asset lifecycle, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP).
- Deliver Technical Leadership and Advisory Services by acting as a senior technical advisor for high voltage matters, supporting engineering teams, operations, and maintenance personnel with expert guidance and field support.
- Drive Customer-Focused Engineering Solutions by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, cost-effective, and fit-for-purpose electrical solutions that meet customer needs and project requirements.
- Support Team Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing by contributing to a high-performing team culture by mentoring peers, participating in meetings, sharing knowledge, and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration across the business.
- Support the Principal Electrical Engineer in developing and maintaining technical Standards to ensure SA Water’s electrical standards reflect best practice and strategic asset requirements, and educate project teams and contractors on compliance and technical expectations.
- Promote Innovation and Continuous Improvement by keeping aware of emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative solutions that enhance performance, safety, and value across electrical infrastructure.
Your success in this role will come from:
- Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering is essential to support your technical expertise and professional practice.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) Accreditation Either currently accredited or eligible to obtain CPEng status with Engineers Australia by 30 June 2026.
- Subject Matter Expertise in High Voltage Systems as a technical authority in high voltage engineering, including investigation, design, and auditing of complex infrastructure.
- Advanced Knowledge of HV Protection systems, Earthing systems & Arc Flash Hazard Management. Deep understanding of HV protection systems, earthing design, and coordination studies essential for safe and reliable operations.
- Experience and proven capability in developing concept and detailed designs, as well as testing, inspection, and commissioning of HV systems and equipment.
- Experience in applying and auditing technical standards, with the ability to liaise with regulatory bodies and power authorities on compliance matters.
- Strong Communication and Leadership Skills with the ability to mentor others, lead technical discussions, and communicate confidently with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
- Familiarity with Etap and Powercad software. Familiarity with SKM power tools will be advantageous.
