Position Information

The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

About the Role

A School Administrative Officer provides administrative, financial and student welfare/wellbeing support and assistance in relation to office and classroom activities, including but not limited to the following school settings: the office, sick bay, library, science laboratory, and food technology/kitchen areas.

Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training.
- Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.

Sydney Girls High School is an academically selective secondary school with 930 students. Enrolment in Year 7 is via the NSW Department of Education/'s selective school test and subsequently, in Years 8-11, through a school-based enrolment procedure prioritising academic and co-curricular achievement. Situated in Moore Park, Sydney students, 89% of whom are from Non English Speaking Backgrounds, travel from a widespread geographic area to attend the school which is well-known for its academic success and emphasis on co-curricular education. Over and above the intellectual domain, the school actively seeks to foster participation in all domains of the High Potential and Gifted Education Policy, with strong programs in the physical, creative and socio-emotional domains. As the oldest continuous public high school in NSW, the history of the school is a prominent feature, with many successful alumnae returning to school to support and inspire current students. There is a strong emphasis on evidence-based practices and community consultation to ensure that processes and practices, including teaching and learning, wellbeing, and administration, are dynamic and culturally responsive.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
- Administration skills including a knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with teachers and students.
- Ability to perform tasks in one or more of the following areas: office procedures; accounting procedures; sick bay; hospitality and /or design and technology; science.
