Overview

Deanmore Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during Term 4, 2025 and up to the end of Term 4, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Deanmore PS is located in Karrinyup and has a strongly engaged community. Responsibilities

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, suitable applicants should:

- provide feedback when asked on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress.
- assist with modification and maintenance of the learning environment; experience with students with Autism and trauma is highly desirable.
- collaborate with the teacher to create and maintain engaging, challenging, and supportive education programs to meet the specific needs of the student.
- under teacher direction, assist in the delivery of planned education programs, implement individual or small group programs, and provide valuable feedback to support student learning.
- support programs relevant to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Physical Disability (PD), mental health and behavioural needs.
- assist with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment, equipment, materials and resources for use in classes, displays, demonstrations, and safe storage after activities.
- support care and supervision of students in out-of-class activities and on school excursions; may work across classrooms for flexibility.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential and desirable attributes include:

- excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate with teachers to support learning.
- ability to work with students with diverse needs and backgrounds.
- empathy, flexibility, initiative, and a proactive approach to learning environment modification.
- experience or knowledge relevant to ASD, ID, PD, mental health, and behavioural needs is desirable.

Eligibility and Conditions

- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

Salary and Conditions

Salary: Level 2/3, $34.87 - $39.37 per hour (EA (Gov) GA 2025). Location: Karrinyup. Work Type: Permanent - Part Time, Permanent - Full Time, Fixed Term - Full Time, Fixed Term - Part Time. - Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
