This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026

We offer an innovative curriculum with the provision of a range of study options for senior students, including a full tertiary entrance program and a wide variety of vocational courses.

As a Special Needs Education Assistant you should, under teacher direction assist in the implementation of specialised education programs. The successful applicant will ideally have experience working with students with a variety of diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, medical conditions, physical disability, trauma and anxiety. They should be experienced in supporting the needs of students with complex needs, requiring self-regulation of behaviour and social and emotional support.

The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. An understanding and regular use of safe work practices will be highly regarded. You will ideally be organised and able to use your initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment. You will ideally work either under general supervision or autonomously, and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement. We are seeking applicants who are committed to enhancing students’ learning opportunities using their understanding of differentiation, intervention and engagement strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum

The successful applicant should assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. You will ideally also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students, as well as the ability and willingness to engage with children with challenging behaviour is highly desirable. Experience with direct instruction, ASDAN and Manual Handling is preferred but not essential.

- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.

- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.

- Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.

- Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.

- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.
