About the Role:
This is an exciting permanent opportunity to join our team as a System Operations Planner Operator, working at our Burnley depot in a full-time and permanent role.
In this role you will facilitate network access through assessing, accepting and prioritising applications for planned access to the electricity networks across limited transmission (dedicated connection transmission assets), sub-transmission, distribution and low voltage and for producing detailed switching instructions in the Distribution Management System to provide safe access to these networks.
This role conducts switching operations on sub-transmission (including within terminal stations), distribution and LV networks in planned and unplanned situations, and provides operational advice to other business units, external operating authorities and customers.
The ideal person for this role will have a strong technical background and experience in the electricity distribution industry. In addition, this candidate will have strong communication, a drive for continuous improvement, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to communicate complex operational issues to both technical & non-technical people.
In this role you will deliver:
- Review and accept network access requests to avoid conflict, maximise system security and workforce allocation
- Produce clear and concise operational instructions
- Provide advice and direction to internal personnel, external operational authorities and major customers
- Create and maintain standard switching instructions
- Ensure planned outages comply with business & regulatory requirements
- Undertake switching operations including sub-transmission network (within terminal stations) and Distribution HV & LV network
- Carry out inspections of Zone substations for security and condition of plant.
- Undertake field observations of operational activities
- Support quality improvement in the team through mentorship and feedback.
To succeed in this role you will have:
- Certificate of Technology (Electrical)/ Certificate IV Electrical/ Associate or Advanced Diploma Electrical Engineering or equivalent tertiary based qualification
- Experience in field operation of electrical distribution network assets, including sub-transmission, distribution and low voltage networks
- Experience in processing and planning of networking access applications including writing of switching instructions, for limited transmission, sub-transmission, distribution and low voltage assets
- Very good working knowledge of the electrical distribution network, including CBD, Urban & regional networks, Sub transmission, Distribution HV & LV and Protection Schemes
- Working understanding of VESI & Company Operating procedures.
- IT Systems knowledge – SCADA, ADMS, GIS, OMS, EDNAR, NOS
- Good understanding of relevant regulatory codes
- Understanding of construction & maintenance work methods including Z/Substation work & Live Line
