Bengalla Mining Company (a member of New Hope Group) is a joint venture with a strong track record of achievement. Our focus is on maintaining strong safety, productivity, and profitability results. We have a very collaborative team culture and a highly professional and rewarding work environment. Operational since 1999, Bengalla is in Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley, and supplies international markets with approximately 13 Mtpa.
Bengalla is an open cut coal mine offering a residential lifestyle. The development consent for the operation provides the ability to mine through to 2039. We pride ourselves on the professionalism with which we pursue our goals and our strong links into our community.
The Role
The Environmental Specialist will drive environmental compliance and a continued pursuit of environmental best practice. The role will have exposure to managing capital project work, day to day operations and support the delivery of key project approvals.
In this role you will also:
- Plan and coordinate environmental activities (including environmental monitoring programs).
- Prepare accurate environmental performance and compliance reports as required.
- Contribute to improving community and government relations by assessing and responding to community complaints and environmental incidents.
- Engage and direct contractors and consultants as required to assist with environmental management activities.
- Drive continual improvement and site compliance.
- Demonstrate visible in-filed environmental leadership, excellence and best practice.
- Engage directly with regulators, near neighbours and landholders.
- Grow and champion industry leading land management and rehabilitation outcomes for the site.
Qualifications and experience
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental management or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years experience as an environment professional.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and efficiently with regulators and key government stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in consultant and contractor supervision.
- Working knowledge of NSW environmental regulatory framework.
- Sound community liaison capabilities.
- High level computer literacy and competency with mapping software e.g. Office, SAP/Pulse, Mapinfo/ArcGIS
