The role you'll contribute:
The Senior Research Scientist is responsible for developing and implementing basic and translational research studies in specific areas of research as agreed with the Director. He/she will work alongside and may supervise other research staff and students engaged on projects within these areas, and will demonstrate independent thought, technical expertise, and current knowledge of the subject. The Senior Research Scientist will demonstrate increasing independence in directing his/her research programs, and in writing grant applications and scientific papers. In this way, the position holder actively contributes to providing outstanding customer service, accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, and clearly demonstrates accountability for his/her own actions and decisions. - He/she will contribute to the continuous improvement of all issues related to compliance by adhering to all Florida Hospital, State of Florida and federal clinical laboratory rules, regulations and guidelines. He/she will also ensure that staff under their direct supervision is fully compliant with such regulations.
- Supervise technical staff and mentor students/fellows in good ethical biomedical research, data collection, and reporting.
- The Senior Research Scientist will independently develop and implement research programs for basic and translational research as approved by the Director. He/she will demonstrate increasingly independent thought in the formulation of scientific hypotheses, experimental design, implementing new research programs, and planning future project directions. He/she will conform to all standards of good research practice, including the use of appropriate quality control and calibration procedures, documentation and analysis of research data, and will operate within relevant budgetary constraints. He/she will help to develop other areas of basic, applied or contract research as agreed with the Director and/or Principal Scientist. The position holder will maintain an up-to-date laboratory notebook for regular inspection and countersignature by the Director, and ensure that students and staff under his/her direction do likewise. He/she must be flexible enough to accommodate rapidly changing priorities and capable of performing multiple concomitant assignments in a timely manner. He/she will liaise with other scientists, hospital staff, commercial organizations, and funding agencies to further the aims of the research programs.
- The Senior Research Scientist will independently identify possibilities for grant applications in relevant research areas. With the approval, and where necessary, the assistance of the Director and/or Principal Scientist, he/she will prepare and submit grant applications, soliciting input, review and collaboration from appropriate coworkers as necessary, and in a timely manner. He/she will accurately document percentage effort and all relevant expenditures on individual research projects, in order to provide audit information to the Office of Research Administration and other individuals and agencies as may be required. - Doctorate in a clinically relevant scientific field
- Five plus years of post-doctoral research experience
