Eye Health Nurse Co-ordinator - Ophthalmology

This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (pro-rata part-time/temporary positions less than 18 months), and a reoccurring Annual Retention Bonus valued up to $10,000 (pro-rata part time), under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

What you'll be doing

The Eye Health Co-ordinator role is to provide clinical nursing leadership in Ophthalmic Nursing in the Outpatient Department at Broken Hill Hospital in order to achieve optimal outcomes for patients with Ophthalmic conditions. Improving access, co-ordination and management of eye health services, including provision to assist in remote outreach clinics, inclusive of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander Communities to reduce the burden of eye disease in the Far West Local Health District communities.

- Provide clinical assessment, co-ordination and case management of outpatients in collaboration with Ophthalmology Consultants.
- Ensures the safe delivery of high quality evidence based patient centred care. Adhering to Policy, hospital protocols and procedures relating to clinical practice and environmental safety. Work with patients, carers, families and other health professionals to deliver safe and equitable patient care.
- Develop, deliver and evaluate high quality evidence based education and training resources/materials for nursing staff, provide direct clinical support and supervision.
- Initiate, coordinate and evaluate continuous quality improvement projects to reduce clinical variation in the delivery of patient care.
- Liaise with Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and other members of the team to ensure effective communication regarding planned and unplanned changes in patient and clinic management.
- Provide clinical support to the Ophthalmology Registrar pre and post ophthalmic surgery.
- Provide and encourage partnership with key stakeholders and other agencies, to co-ordinate eye health services to Indigenous communities in Far West Local Health District.

How to apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible.

- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA).
- At least three years post graduate nursing experience with 2 years clinical experience within the specialty of Ophthalmic Nursing.
- Post graduate tertiary qualifications in Ophthalmic Nursing or working towards same with 12 months of commencement including membership to AONA (Australian Ophthalmic Nursing Association)
- Demonstrated evidence of contribution to the development of clinical practice.
- Demonstrated evidence of high level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated evidence of proven and effective organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Current NSW driver's licence
