Where you'll be working

Macquarie Hospital is a 195 bed facility comprised of 9 separate units, 8 of which are medium to long stay. About the Role

Figtree Unit is an integrated service providing respite and recovery with 20 beds for adults with co-existing mental health issues and established patterns of harmful or dependent drug use. The Figtree treatment team offer specialised skills, knowledge and experience to assist consumers to achieve their optimum level of recovery. They endorse a pragmatic, best practice harm reduction approach, aimed at eliminating or at least minimising the risks associated with chronic substance abuse. Treatment and care is individualised and developed in collaboration with consumers and their carers and address a range of mental health issues and drug-related problems.

Henley Unit provides the first stage of a specific Drug & Alcohol treatment program for people with mental illness with 22 beds for adults in a contained environment due to risk of harm to self or others or because their extreme disorganisation associated with their presentation, renders them not yet well enough to reside in an open environment. The program is for those consumers who are likely to show substantial clinical improvement during their admission. Consumers have access to drug and alcohol, individual and group counselling and Hospital Rehabilitation Program Areas for educational, social vocational activities.

The Stepping Stones program was opened as part of the Ministry of Health Homelessness and Vulnerable Persons projects and has 8 beds within 2 cottages of the Figtree Unit. The program offers an intensive inpatient rehabilitation for people with mental illness experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The program is based around participation in a structured routine and life skills activities with a specific focus on skills to maintain a tenancy. The team works in partnership with the consumer to find and set up a support network and develop the skills that will enable the consumer to live in the community without hardship.
