Care in Action
With a career at the TAC, you’ll be helping us look out for the lives of everyone who travels on Victoria’s roads. That’s care in action.
Right now, we are seeking a Solicitor who will play their part in this shared purpose, while also supporting the progress of clients and colleagues so they can achieve great things. That’s truly rewarding work that will help us continue to deliver life-critical services where it matters.
About the role
As a Solicitor at the TAC, you’ll play a pivotal role in our strategy to provide fair, client-focused outcomes, directly impacting the lives of Victorians by ensuring access to justice and just compensation. This isn’t just a job – it’s meaningful work that strengthens our community, one case at a time.
You will manage a dynamic portfolio of litigated and non-litigated matters under the Transport Accident Act. From no-fault disputes and VCAT applications to serious injury applications, common law claims, and prosecutions, you’ll advocate for fairness while providing the TAC with specialised and considered legal advice.
- Advocate with Impact: Represent TAC in courts and tribunals, including VCAT, County, and Supreme Courts, using your dispute resolution and litigation expertise to drive fair outcomes.
- Build relationships: Work with plaintiff solicitors, medical experts, courts and other key stakeholders, leveraging your influence and negotiation skills to achieve just results.
- Innovate and Solve: Apply analytical and strategic thinking to interpret complex legislation, manage diverse cases, and resolve disputes through formal litigation or alternative dispute resolution methods.
- Contribute to the Community: Support the TAC’s purpose by ensuring our scheme delivers life-critical services, directly improving lives across Victoria.
About the Team
You’ll join the TAC’s Client’s Division, a dynamic area of the organisation dedicated to supporting decision-making pursuant to the Transport Accident Act and delivering exceptional outcomes for Victorians.
This is more than just a legal role; it’s a chance to contribute to the community. With no billable hours, a focus on collaboration, and flexible working, you’ll find balance and purpose.
You’ll grow through internal development opportunities and be part of a team that values diversity, innovation, and community impact. Finish each workday knowing your work truly matters.
What we’re looking for
Extensive legal experience including
- Extensive knowledge of the Transport Accident Act, common law principles and other relevant legislation and legal policy;
- Extensive knowledge of the Courts and Tribunal rules, processes and procedures in all relevant jurisdictions;
- Demonstrate high degree of proficiency in managing complex litigation across various jurisdictions (including at VCAT, County and Supreme Courts);
- Extensive litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience.
Highly developed problem solving, time management, and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, with the ability to influence, negotiate and work under demanding timeframes with changing priorities
- Demonstrated experience in building relationships with stakeholders, including clients, the legal fraternity, and medical practitioners.
Why you’ll love it here
There’s more to work than a competitive salary and amazing employee benefits. As our newest Solicitor, you’ll also:
Make a positive difference
Every day the work you do at the TAC contributes to something bigger. As part of an inclusive, supportive team you’ll find real purpose in achieving goals, together.
Be rewarded for great work
We value our people, offering a corporate incentive, salary packaging and a reward and recognition program.
Grow and go places
We’re invested in your progress. When you work for one of Victoria’s largest and leading workplaces, you’ll receive extensive internal opportunities for development and access to the LinkedIn Learning Digital Hub.
