Who we are:
SWSLHD Drug Health Services provides comprehensive support for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and drug use across South Western Sydney. Services include inpatient withdrawal at the Corella unit (Fairfield), the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialist teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and Youth Service.

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals affected by substance use? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Drug Health Intake & Assessment Clinician to join our multidisciplinary team. This role is open to professionals at Level 1-2 in the following disciplines: Counselling, Social Work, Welfare, or Psychology. You will be the first point of contact for clients, conducting comprehensive assessments, providing brief interventions, and facilitating referrals to appropriate treatment services. Your work will be vital in supporting individuals on their journey toward recovery and wellbeing.

What you’ll be doing:
Using innovative, evidence-based skills and interventions, you will professionally support individuals seeking assistance with alcohol and drug use. You will take a trauma-informed approach and provide respectful, person-centred care, tailored to individual’s needs. Central to your role will be employing an individualised, holistic approach to care, incorporating comprehensive care planning to address the diverse physical, emotional, and social aspects of each person’s journey.

The primary purpose of the Community Counselling and Intake Team is to reduce drug related harm and provide a high standard of clinical care to those that access Drug Health Services. The team is responsible for providing community based counselling services for people with drug and alcohol issues, and, the coordinate and manage of the centralised intake service for Drug Health Services. Drug Health Services provides a range of counselling and psychological interventions in a safe and caring environment. Counsellors can help clients and their families understand and manage some of the complex issues that relate to substance use.

Counselling can be undertaken before, after or at the same time as other drug health treatments.

Services are available at Tahmoor, Rosemeadow, Narellan, Ingleburn, Wollondilly, Bankstown, Cabramatta, Fairfield and Liverpool.

A Drug Health Intake & Assessment Clinician in the alcohol and other drugs sector offers a challenging and rewarding specialisation. It provides the opportunity to take pride in the field, with a strong focus on human rights and intellectually stimulating work.

Criteria:

- Tertiary qualification as a Registered Psychologist, Social Worker, Counsellor, or Welfare Officer, which provides eligibility for membership with a professional organisation and or current registration with AHPRA where applicable

- Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment, case management and counselling within a drug and alcohol service.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.

- High level of communication skills, including the development of person centered care plans and facilitating clinical consultation with other health professionals.

- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
