About the Role

This position involves management of emergency (particularly complex Shoulder and Elbow trauma) and elective Shoulder and Elbow presentations required in inpatient and outpatient settings. Subspecialty fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Fellowship in Shoulder surgery is required. A proven record in research, teaching or quality improvement training is highly regarded.

The applicant must have skills capable of participating in a general orthopaedic trauma at a level 6 hospital with a Major Trauma Service (MTS) and it is highly desirable that the applicant can work with the MTS regarding systems of trauma care and demonstrates achievements in this area.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the general on call roster.

Purpose of the Position

You will provide consultation and management services to outpatients and inpatients in the sub‑specialty of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD.

Selection Criteria

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.

- Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.

- Sound clinical knowledge in Orthopaedic Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.

- Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Orthopaedic Surgery Consultant including Sub‑specialty Fellowship Training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

- High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.

- Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

- Preparedness to participate in any on‑call service, including on‑call rosters already existing or established.

- Knowledge, experience and willingness to act as primary admitting consultant and coordinate care of complex multi trauma admissions, as part of the RNSH Trauma Service.
