Australia's energy system is undergoing unprecedented change with rapid growth in distributed energy resources including rooftop solar, battery storage, electric vehicles, and smart energy management systems. Our client is seeking an experienced DER Specialist to join their team and drive strategic initiatives in distributed energy resource integration and customer energy solutions.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an energy professional with DER expertise to influence the future of Australia's energy system while working with cutting-edge technologies and innovative customer solutions. You will work directly with senior management whilst building relationships with technology providers, regulators, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement DER strategy including solar, battery storage, EV charging, and smart energy systems
- Analyse market opportunities for distributed energy resource products and customer solutions
- Manage DER integration projects including virtual power plants, demand response, and grid services
- Provide technical and commercial advice on DER technologies and market participation
- Coordinate with AEMO, networks, and regulatory bodies on DER integration and market frameworks
- Support business development for customer DER solutions including solar + battery offerings
- Analyse DER performance data and optimise customer energy solutions and grid services
- Manage relationships with DER technology providers, installers, and aggregation partners
- Develop business cases for new DER products and customer value propositions
- Support regulatory submissions and industry consultation processes on DER matters
- Lead cross-functional teams on DER projects and customer solution development
- Monitor industry trends and emerging DER technologies and business models

What You'll Bring

Our client is seeking a candidate who has:

- 5-8 years' experience in distributed energy resources, renewable energy, or energy markets
- Strong understanding of DER technologies including solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, and smart inverters
- Experience with DER integration, virtual power plants, or demand response programmes
- Excellent knowledge of NEM operations, DER market frameworks, and AEMO requirements
- Understanding of network constraints, grid integration challenges, and technical standards
- Strong analytical skills with experience in energy data analysis and performance optimisation
- Outstanding stakeholder management skills and experience with technology providers
- Commercial acumen and ability to develop compelling customer value propositions
- Proactive approach with genuine passion for energy innovation and customer solutions
- Project management experience with ability to lead complex DER initiatives

Highly Regarded

- Engineering or technical degree in electrical, renewable energy, or related discipline
- Experience with energy retail, customer solutions, or energy services business models
- Understanding of customer behaviour, energy usage patterns, and residential energy markets
- Professional qualifications in project management or energy systems
- Experience with energy storage systems, grid-scale batteries, or microgrid development
