Overview
Girton Grammar School is seeking an engaging English Teacher to develop and deliver high-quality lessons, to maintain and build on our academic success. This is a full-time and ongoing teaching position starting in January 2026. Part-time applications may also be considered.
The primary responsibility of this role is to teach English from Year 7 through to VCE, inspiring students to develop both a passion for the subject and strong literacy skills in reading and writing. The successful applicant will engage students in critical thinking, discussion, and analysis, fostering a deep appreciation of literature and language, and their relevance to the world beyond the classroom.
At Girton Grammar, English Teachers play a key role in the ongoing refinement and delivery of a rigorous, evidence-informed curriculum grounded in the Science of Learning. This role requires a commitment to providing low-variance, data-informed instruction, with a strong emphasis on explicit teaching practices that promote deep understanding and sustained success.
The successful candidate will also assist in the design and implementation of a robust English curriculum that purposefully integrates the principles of Cognitive Load Theory, Explicit Instruction, and the Science of Learning. To achieve this, we are seeking an educator who thrives in a supportive and collaborative environment—someone passionate about designing and delivering explicit, high-impact lessons that empower students to achieve academic excellence and realise their preferred futures.

Key Selection Criteria
- Appropriate qualification and current registration as a teacher,
- A passion for teaching English in years 7-12, with a proven ability to write and deliver an outstanding English curriculum,
- An understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of the Science of Learning and Explicit Instruction,
- Demonstrated effective delivery of teaching and learning programs,
- A commitment to professional development,
- Excellent personal communication, administrative and organisational skills,
- Commitment to student wellbeing and child safety, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children, including children with diverse needs and backgrounds,
- Strong skills in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), especially as they relate to teaching and learning,
- Commitment to co-curricular activities.
