Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) – Remote

You engineer the future of education with an ambitious, no-boundary and innovative team.

NotesEdu simplifies exam preparation online for over 30,000 students across the APAC region. Every minute we have hundreds of top-scoring students answering challenging questions and with detailed answer explanations, comprehensive reporting and live chat test experts: we've made learning accessible, engaging and effortless.

As a disruptive source of innovation in the Australian EdTech sphere, we are actively looking for top-end and future-thinking software engineers that are passionate to craft and code the future. We are a rapidly growing start-up, so you'll work closely with the founders to craft solutions that reach thousands of students and teachers.

We are working on challenging, out of the box ideas from complex AI/ML systems to pave the next generation of discovering knowledge gaps in learning to algorithmically creating exam-style questions at scale. We need the best minds, that are obsessive, passionate and have an inherent care for quality to create social impact in the education space.

Our current projects are mainly in MVP stages and thus require rapid prototyping to bring new technologies to market. We have pre-approved, market-validated UI designs ready to be implemented by a highly-skilled full stack engineer from architecture, deployment, database design to front-end and back-end development.

Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned full-stack engineer to build out and manage our new products' web application development and infrastructure independently as we begin to scale our team. Successful candidates will have a minimum of six years’ recent experience with all of the skills listed below.

HTML5, CSS3, React, Redux, Typescript, NodeJS & MongoDB/PostgreSQL running on AWS infrastructure.

Responsibilities

- High-level ownership of products you engineer, and seeing through a project from conception to launching and gathering feedback

- Design and implementation of the overall web architecture

- “Pixel-perfect”, responsive implementation of our approved user interface

- Design and deployment of our database, following industry-standard specifications for student/teacher security and privacy

- Ensuring the entire stack is designed and built for speed and scalability

- Design and construction of REST API & integrating our front-end UI with the constructed API

- Design and implementation of continuous integration and deployment

Skills

- Unrelenting passion for perfect front-end engineering (React JS is a must)

- A relevant back-end programming language (Node.js is highly preferred)

- Database design and management, including being up on the latest practices and associated versions (Firebase Firestore, PostgreSQL or MongoDB preferred)

- Independently deploy and manage servers for the relevant environment (AWS or Google Cloud experience necessary)

- Familiarity with a relevant and globally supported framework—both front-end and back-end

- Ideally, familiarity with CSS pre-processors, bundlers, and associated languages/syntaxes/libraries (e.g. Sass or Less)

- Thorough understanding of user experience and possibly even product strategy

- Experience implementing testing platforms and unit tests

- Proficiency with Git

- Appreciation for clean and well documented code

- Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

A great plus, but not necessary:

- Relevant industry experience engineering and deploying education, assessment or LMS related platforms is a plus

- An entrepreneurial initiative and proactive drive to just 'do things'

- Ability and interest to learn new programming languages, frameworks and paradigms

- Willingness to research and define new features, ideas and even some interest in how a product can be monetised (& be made profitable).

What we'd like to see (all optional):

- Your GitHub or Portfolio

- Code you've written that you absolutely hate.

- Any projects you've worked on or led; that you are proud of.

You need to give a minimum of 10–15 hour commitment per week. The work is flexible and project-orientated and can be planned around your other commitments. Work will be conducted remotely online (i.e. work from home).

You need to attach a cover letter to demonstrate the value you can bring to NotesEdu and how you suit the role requirements.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
