About the role
We are seeking an experienced Scientist Grade 1 who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:
- Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
- Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
- Assist with stock control
- Maintain compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
- Maintain all equipment and operate equipment in line with protocols
- Maintain current scientific knowledge
- Participate in both routine and audit‑related Quality Assurance activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
- Participate in training staff
- Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
- Adhere to Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science)
- Membership of AIMS (Australian Institute of Medical Scientists)
- Basic technical experience or demonstrated skills in microbiology diagnostic testing including culture reading, microscopy, identification and susceptibility testing
- Prior experience in clinical diagnostic microbiology laboratory
- Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
- Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
- An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence

- A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member

- This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department‑specific vaccine‑preventative diseases
