Training Programme Directors have specific responsibilities as agreed in their job plans but retain corporate responsibility with the LTPD for the organisation and supervision of specialty training programmes for general practice within NHS England in line with the national curriculum .

This appointment is to the Postgraduate School of Primary Care. The post will be based at Durham & Tees Valley GP Training Programme in Stockton-on-Tees.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Job responsibilities

- Organising and delivering the taught course to doctors in GP training

- Advising and supporting hospital and GP trainers

- Resourcing the assessment systems (ARCP)

- Support to doctors in difficulty, including early warning, needs assessment and support to trainers of such doctors

- Training the workforce (GP Educationalists, admin, GP and hospital trainers, educational and clinical supervisors)

- Supporting the Lead Training Programme Director as required to fulfil the Schools agreed functions

Secondments

Applicants from within the NHS will be offered on a secondment basis only, agreement should be obtained from their employer prior to submitting the application.

Experience and Knowledge

- Good working knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes

- Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education

- Experience of clinical and educational leadership including across multi-professional teams

Qualifications and Training

- Registered Medical or Dental Practitioner with a current licence to practise or hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (or equivalent)

- Applicants, regardless of professional background, must have a track record of professionalism in line with the principles set out in Good Medical Practice and compatible with appointment in a senior clinical educator role

- Higher educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate, diploma or Master’s in education

Skills and Abilities

- Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills

- Ability to quickly establish personal and professional credibility with colleagues and other key stakeholders

- Proven organisational and time management skills

- Ability to support others (inc pastoral skills) and to help others develop and progress
