Description & Requirements
Help us deliver like never before Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity As our new Automation Assurance Manager, you’ll be at the heart of shaping the future of parcel delivery at Australia Post. Sitting within the Infrastructure & Asset team of Network Operations, this role reports to the Senior Program Manager – South, while working closely with our Senior Manager of Innovation & Automation—giving you a front-row seat (and steering wheel) in driving automation across our network.
This role will require flexibility to work both in the office and onsite. You’ll be based primarily out of our Port Melbourne, Richmond, and Tullamarine offices, with an expectation of 3–5 days a week onsite as required. In addition, you’ll spend time on site during installation phases and significant time during final commissioning and testing. Interstate travel may also be required to support projects across the country.
You’ll:
- Lead advancements in parcel delivery tech that make things safer, smarter, and faster.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to design and implement automation solutions—some tied to $100M+ investments.
- Provide technical assurance, oversight, and governance across major projects.
- Help shape technology strategies that power our network into the future.
What you’ll deliver with us
In this role, you’ll be the driving force behind how automation comes to life across our network. You’ll:
- Shape strategic automation projects by reviewing designs, validating proposals, and ensuring solutions are efficient, safe, and cost-effective.
- Partner with vendors and internal teams to deliver large-scale automation solutions that meet budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Evaluate and negotiate with automation vendors, ensuring we get the best value and outcomes from every partnership.
- Analyse workflows, identify bottlenecks, and bring forward smart solutions that boost efficiency across the entire parcel lifecycle—from processing centres to last-mile delivery.
- Assess emerging technologies like robotics, AI, IoT, and autonomous vehicles—and provide insights on their potential application to our network.
- Support change management and training so our people can confidently adopt new technologies and ways of working.
- Lead with a “One Team” mindset, building a culture of safety, collaboration, and innovation.
About you
We’re open to candidates from different backgrounds who bring the right expertise. You may have:
- 8+ years’ experience in industrial/process automation with an engineering background across design, implementation and project management; OR
- 4+ years’ experience in parcel sortation or logistics automation (ideally within a competitor environment).
- Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.
- A sharp understanding of assurance frameworks, risk management, and compliance.
- Experience working with vendors to deliver large-scale, complex projects.
- Exposure to robotics and advanced automation technologies is highly regarded.
- A results-driven mindset with a passion for delivering safe, smart, and innovative outcomes.
How we’ll deliver for you
- Join one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse workforces in Australia, with people of all ages, genders and walks of life
- We deliver on our values of Trust, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Safety every day. They’re the TIES that bind our team together
- Immerse yourself in the AP Way – where every single team member partakes in a learning module to help understand the vital role we play in delivering on our strategy and purpose
