The Principal Behaviour Support Advisor Unit works with schools to understand students and help meet their needs in positive ways. The Unit's work is to prevent behavioural challenges before they happen, so that restraint and seclusion are not needed. The role contributes toward performance and contract management, program implementation, local area engagement and general team support. The incumbent will provide general support to ensure successful project delivery, collect and analyse data associated with projects, and report on project outcomes.
About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services. The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross‑sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Role

About the Division
Schools Education Programs and Support Group
The School Education Programs and Support Group (SEPS) has a lead responsibility to shape the schooling system to provide every student with knowledge and capabilities and to ensure it fosters development and wellbeing, that equips children and young people for the 21st century world in which they live.
SEPS leads policy development and program design to ensure improved educational and wellbeing outcomes and that all students, regardless of their background, are engaged and active learners. SEPS leads a diverse range of responsibilities which include:
- leading the Department's efforts to improve and reform child and learner wellbeing, health and engagement
- and enhance service delivery
- leading the improvement of educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with disability and additional needs and building the professional capability of school and regional workforces in inclusive education practice
- leading Koorie education, engagement and workforce matters, including corporate inclusion
- ensuring that all learners have the skills to be interconnected, active and informed global citizens in a modern world
- partnering with industry and schools to encourage pathways and careers in STEM
- shaping initiatives that better engage disadvantaged or at-risk students and leading programs with this focus on vulnerable cohorts, including Koorie, students with disability, EAL and new arrivals, and rural and regional students
In close collaboration and partnership with other Groups in the Department, Statutory Authorities, and with servicedelivery partners, parents and families, SEPS works as a catalyst to drive improved professional practice. The Schools and Regional Services Group is the lead delivery partner and pathway to implementation for SEPS policy, programs and support initiatives.
SEPS also works closely with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, Schools and Regional Services and Policy, Strategy and Performance groups to lead, monitor and refine the Victorian school improvement agenda.
Inclusive Education Division
The Inclusive Education Division has a central role in achieving the Education State Agenda by ensuring that all students will have access to the same quality education, regardless of their background or circumstance. This is reflective of our ambition to ensure students with disability and additional needs are engaged and active learners and are provided with the skills, knowledge and attributes they need to succeed in work and life. Specifically, the purpose of the Division is to:
- Lead the Department's efforts to implement policy and programs and enhance service delivery to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with disability and additional needs.
- Focus on how the education system can better support children and young people with disability. This includes implementation of inclusive education reforms and oversight of the Government's $1.6 billion Disability Inclusion reform.
- Work across the Department and other government departments and agencies to develop and lead policy and initiatives to maximise the access, participation, supported transition and achievement of children and young people with disability and additional needs.
- Build the capability of regional and school-based staff to improve inclusive education frameworks, interventions and practices within regions, schools and early childhood settings. This includes Student Support Services, behaviour, trauma and mental health.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
The incumbent will have demonstrated project and contact management skills, understanding of data analysis and experience with reporting on project outcomes within the Victorian education system.
