Senior Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Project Engineer - ADL
Posted: 22/10/2025
Closing Date: 07/11/2025
Job Type: Permanent - Full Time
Job Category: EICSS
About Us
For over 35 years, GPA Engineering has been a trusted, Australian-owned consultancy delivering engineering, procurement and construction management services across water, energy, renewables, defence, mining, and hydrogen. We develop and implement projects that drive critical infrastructure and support industries across Australia.
With offices nationwide (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Darwin, Perth) and a reputation for technical excellence, our strength lies in our people. We bring together diverse, motivated professionals who value teamwork, integrity, safety, and sustainability. At GPA, you’ll find the scale and expertise of a leading consultancy, combined with the supportive culture of a close-knit team.
Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and organised Senior E&I Project Engineer to join our growing Adelaide team.
What truly sets us apart is the breadth of services under one roof. From electrical design, power systems, instrumentation and controls, and automation through to civil, structural, mechanical, and process engineering — GPA covers the full end-to-end project lifecycle from concept through to detailed design, construction management, and commissioning.
That means as a Project Engineer here, you’ll gain exposure to all phases of delivery and work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to bring projects to life. In this role, you’ll be central to driving project success — working closely with clients, stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and fit-for-purpose solutions. It’s an opportunity to strengthen your project delivery expertise, expand your industry experience, and progress towards leadership or senior project management pathways.
We believe this diversity of projects and in-house expertise makes GPA the ideal place to grow — whether you want to deepen your technical mastery, broaden into multi-disciplinary project delivery, or step into a leadership position.
This role blends engineering knowledge with project coordination, giving you the chance to work across diverse industries and multi-disciplinary projects while developing both your technical and project delivery skills. As part of the team, you will:
- Support the development and review of LV electrical, instrumentation and control hardware designs, including drawings, equipment specifications, systems, and schedules.
- Assist with and review multi-disciplinary deliverables to ensure integrated project outcomes.
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, estimates, and cost plans.
- Deliver small to large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects safely, efficiently, and to client expectations.
- Resolve design issues, anomalies, and technical challenges in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Lead client meetings, manage risks, track actions, and provide clear progress reporting.
- Support tendering and contract administration for larger projects.
- Mentor and support junior engineers by sharing project knowledge, providing guidance, checking and helping them develop strong engineering fundamentals.
- Provide construction and commissioning support, including site visits as required.
- Contribute to the technical success of project outcomes within your discipline(s).
Desired Skills and Experience
We’re looking for a Senior E&I Project Engineer who combines technical grounding in electrical and instrumentation with strong organisational and delivery skills. The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience delivering E&I projects within sectors such as water, energy, oil & gas, mining, defence and renewables with a sound understanding of relevant Australian Standards including AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3008 (knowledge of AS/NZS 3010 and AS/NZS 60079.14 is desirable).
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to support project delivery.
- Experience preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and progress reporting.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence in client-facing roles.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and vendors.
- An Australian-recognised engineering degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related field (Chartership and/or Project Management qualifications desirable).
A requirement for this role is to complete a satisfactory pre-employment medical check and Australian police clearance.
What we offer:
At GPA, we want our people to thrive — both professionally and personally. We’re big enough to deliver complex, high-profile projects, yet small enough that you’ll always feel valued and supported.
- Competitive Salary & Rewards – a fair and attractive compensation package with paid overtime, recognising the value of the work you put in.
- Career Growth & Development – structured progression pathways, company-sponsored training, and support towards professional membership and Chartership.
- Flexibility – hybrid working options and cultural leave swap days, because we know work-life balance matters.
- Health & Wellbeing – wellbeing programs, confidential EAP support, and a culture that genuinely looks out for each other.
- Family-Friendly Benefits – paid parental leave for both primary and secondary carers, plus policies that support every stage of life.
- Community & Culture – a workplace that values connection and fun, from weekly sports teams and fitness clubs (Soccer, Cricket, Muay Thai, Running) through to social events like cinema nights, family BBQs, quiz nights, and celebrations of diverse cultural traditions.
- Giving Back – a strong commitment to charity, with GPA donating over $3 million directly to charitable organisations.
- Diversity & Inclusion – a team where different perspectives are respected and collaboration drives better outcomes.
At GPA, you’ll be joining a workplace that combines the professionalism of a leading consultancy with the warmth of a supportive, people-first culture. We’re proud that over 80 of our team members have been with us for more than 10 years – a testament to the career growth and long-term commitment fostered here.
