Chief Operations Officer

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) leads the Corporate Services Team in the delivery of all operations and support systems necessary to enable Galangoor Duwalami Primary Healthcare to deliver on its mission in providing culturally safe, high quality and holistic primary health care services across a range of disciplines. The position will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to support and implement the business objectives of Galangoor Duwalami, maintain corporate governance and ensure that services and programs are delivered in accordance with the core values, strategic plan and policies.

What you’ll do

- Provide strategic support to the CEO and operational leadership across senior managers.
- Manage end-to-end operations — clinical support services, corporate services, quality and risk, and service delivery enablement.
- Lead a near-term recruitment drive: workforce planning, interviewing, shortlisting and selection for multiple operational roles.
- Strengthen governance, compliance and risk; embed fit-for-purpose processes, reporting and KPIs.
- Drive continuous improvement across access, patient experience, safety and performance.
- Build capability and culture aligned to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community needs.

About Galangoor Duwalami Primary Healthcare

A trusted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community health organisation serving the Fraser Coast. They’re seeking a hands-on COO to consolidate corporate and operational functions, steady the day-to-day, and free the CEO to focus on strategy and growth.

About You

- 5+ years post-qualification, with 2+ years leading teams and clinical/operational functions (e.g., regional leadership, multi-site or large-team scope).
- Proven experience running day-to-day operations in health, community or related services.
- Comfortable managing recruitment and onboarding at pace.
- Working knowledge of health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a strong commitment to improving health outcomes.
- Demonstrated cultural capability and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; experience in culturally appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health or community services highly regarded.
- Working knowledge of the Privacy Act, Freedom of Information (FOI) and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) obligations; able to apply them pragmatically.
- Collaborative, visible leader who thrives on-site and brings structure without bureaucracy.

Compliance and Requirements

- Blue Card (Working with Children Check – Queensland).
- Mandatory vaccinations: Hep B, DTP (diphtheria–tetanus–pertussis), MMR (measles–mumps–rubella), Varicella (chickenpox) and COVID-19.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Australian Commission of Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC) (clinical qualification not required but regarded favourably).
- RACGP Standards – 5th Edition.
- Working knowledge of Privacy, FOI, WHS obligations and Code of Conduct.
- Compliance with the Galangoor Duwalami Primary Health Care Service - Code of Conduct and Employee Handbook.
