About the Role
As an R&D Scientist, you will lead efforts in microbial characterisation and fermentation process development. Your work will be central to our product pipeline, involving day-to-day microbial culture maintenance, strain typing, fermentation optimisation, and in vitro testing. You’ll be part of a collaborative, curious team where your problem-solving and lab expertise help shape innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain microbial cultures and cell banks to support research and production goals
- Perform detailed phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of microbial strains
- Design, execute, and optimise fermentation processes to improve product performance and scalability
- Conduct in vitro assays to evaluate raw materials and microbial functions
- Analyse data carefully, prepare clear reports, and keep meticulous documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continually improve research and product development
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications a bonus)
- Solid hands-on experience with microbial cultivation, strain characterisation, and fermentation techniques
- Familiarity with in vitro testing methods and laboratory-scale fermentation
- Strong attention to detail and a pragmatic, problem-solving mindset
- Adaptability and enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving startup environment
Desirable Skills
- Experience or knowledge in microbial genomics or related molecular biology techniques
- Experience managing or mentoring a small team, with ability to support and develop colleagues
