About the Position

Are you an experienced planning professional ready to lead strategic growth in a dynamic Pilbara community? In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the Shire’s statutory and strategic planning functions, provide expert advice to Council and stakeholders, and drive innovative land use and development initiatives. From assessing complex development applications to leading strategic land projects and policy development, your work will directly contribute to shaping the future of the Shire of Ashburton. We are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, community-focused environment, demonstrates strong leadership and strategic problem-solving skills, and is proactive, collaborative, and committed to delivering sustainable outcomes. The ideal candidate will confidently manage planning services, land transactions, and key stakeholder relationships. This is offered as a maximum term contract five-year term, with Shire-provided housing, relocation support, generous leave, a competitive salary, and a supportive team culture.

Remuneration and Benefits

- Indicative Package Range: Indicative Annual Package: $214,738 which includes base salary of $140,000 + housing provision + vehicle + superannuation and annual allowances (conditions apply).
- Shire Provided Housing & Relocation Support
- Superannuation + employer matching scheme (subject to eligibility).
- Shire residents can access WA’s Regional Airfare Zone Cap (capped fares).

Responsibilities

- Oversee the Shire’s statutory and strategic planning functions and provide expert advice to Council and stakeholders.
- Lead strategic land projects and policy development; assess complex development applications.
- Manage planning services, land transactions, and key stakeholder relationships.
- Support sustainable outcomes through proactive, collaborative leadership in a community-focused environment.

Qualifications and Experience

- Experienced planning professional with leadership experience and strong strategic problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive, collaborative, and skilled at delivering sustainable planning outcomes.

Contract and Application

- This is a maximum term contract for five years, with Shire-provided housing and relocation support, generous leave, and a supportive team culture.
