[Urgent] Secondary Teacher in NT Community, 2026
3 weeks ago
Located on Central Arrernte land, approximately 2.5 hours from Alice Springs, a remote school is excited to welcome a secondary teacher for 2025 With around 41 students at the school, the Year 7-9 class is very small (2-3 students). The school integrates Read Write Inc. (RWI) into its literacy program and employs the Learning Through Doing approach to make mathematics engaging and practical. The curriculum has already been planned in conjunction with Alice Springs School of the Air, with the focus on generalist subjects including English, Math, Science/Design Technology, HASS and Health & PE which are project based. Many students are at a low literacy level. When students are not in attendance, you will provide relief to primary teachers in the school.
With smaller class sizes, you'll build strong connections with students, tailoring lessons to their individual needs and fostering their growth. Additionally, you'll collaborate with local Anangu educators to incorporate their knowledge and perspectives into the curriculum through On Country learning experiences.
Living in a remote community requires adaptability, flexibility and resilience but offers personal growth, professional development, and the chance to make a meaningful impact. The town has a small population of 130 and is supported by essential services, including a medical clinic, general store, Australia Post services, an airstrip, night patrol, and aged care facilities. Weekends provide the perfect opportunity to explore the region's stunning natural beauty, with activities like camping, bushwalking, and embracing the tranquillity of the outback.
Responsibilities
- Planning, preparing and explicitly delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs, which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
- Supporting students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
- Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well‑being and safety of students whilst at school.
- Regularly assessing students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
- Maintaining student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
- Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships between the school, parents and community.
The position is full‑time for 2026, with a possibility of extending. Primary and secondary teachers are welcome to apply. There is also a primary position available. There are opportunities for partners including grounds, maintenance, cleaning and education assistant employment.
