For over 35 years, GPA Engineering has been a trusted, Australian-owned consultancy delivering engineering, procurement and construction management services across water, energy, renewables, defence, mining, and hydrogen. We develop and implement projects that drive critical infrastructure and support industries across Australia.

With offices nationwide (Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney ) and a reputation for technical excellence, our strength lies in our people. We bring together diverse, motivated professionals who value teamwork, integrity, safety, and sustainability. At GPA, you’ll find the scale and expertise of a leading consultancy, combined with the supportive culture of a close-knit team.

Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior or Lead Electrical Engineer to join our growing team in Adelaide.

What truly sets us apart is the breadth of services under one roof. From electrical design, power systems, instrumentation and controls, and automation through to civil, structural, mechanical, and process engineering — GPA covers the full End to End project lifecycle from concept through to detailed design, construction management and commissioning.

That means as an engineer here, you will obtain exposure to and interface with various disciplines and gain exposure to a wide variety of industries and services, giving you the chance to shape your career in the direction that excites you most.

We believe this diversity of projects and in‑house expertise makes GPA the ideal place to grow — whether you want to deepen your technical mastery, broaden into multi‑disciplinary project delivery, or step into a leadership position.

This role offers the chance to apply your technical expertise while gaining exposure to a diverse range of industries and multi‑disciplinary projects. As part of the team, you will:

- Lead and contribute to LV design from feasibility and concept studies to detailed design
- Lead and support LV power systems modelling and protection studies
- Develop and review electrical designs, drawings, and specifications for LV systems and equipment (technical specifications, datasheets, SLDs and schematics for MCCs, transformers, VSDs, instruments, distribution boards etc.).
- Solve complex engineering problems by breaking them down, identifying dependencies and stakeholders, and steering collaborative, compliant and fit for purpose solutions.
- Support construction and commissioning with technical input, testing, and documentation.
- Mentor and support junior engineers by sharing technical knowledge, providing guidance, checking and helping them develop strong engineering fundamentals.
- Interpret client requirements and support project delivery by preparing scopes of work, leading development of proposals and engineering estimates, and technical documentation.

Desired Skills and Experience

Desired Skills & Experience

We’re looking for an engineer who combines strong technical ability with a collaborative, problem‑solving mindset. The ideal candidate will bring:

- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar electrical engineering role
- Solid experience in LV detailed design, ideally within sectors such as water, oil & gas, mining, defence, renewables and power generation.
- A sound understanding of relevant Australian Standards including AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, and AS/NZS 3010, with knowledge of AS/NZS 60079.14 considered highly desirable.
- Knowledge and previous experience in design and specification of instrumentation and control systems is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and calculation skills, with the ability to translate technical challenges into practical, safe, and efficient solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in preparing technical reports and working effectively within a team.
- An Australian‑recognised engineering degree that meets Engineers Australia membership requirements (Chartership support available).

At GPA, we value engineers who are curious, adaptable, and motivated to grow their skills. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a balance of detailed design work and learning through exposure to a broad mix of industries and disciplines.

A requirement for this role is to complete a satisfactory pre‑employment medical check and Australian police clearance.

What we offer:

At GPA, we want our people to thrive — both professionally and personally. We’re big enough to deliver complex, high‑profile projects, yet small enough that you’ll always feel valued and supported.

- Competitive Salary & Rewards – a fair and attractive compensation package including the opportunity for additional overtime pay recognising the value of the work you put in.
- Career Growth & Development – structured progression pathways, company‑sponsored training, and support towards professional membership and Chartership.
- Flexibility – hybrid working options and cultural leave swap days, because we know work‑life balance matters.
- Health & Wellbeing – wellbeing programmes, confidential EAP support, and a culture that genuinely looks out for each other.
- Family‑Friendly Benefits – company paid parental leave for both primary and secondary carers, plus policies that support every stage of life.
- Community & Culture – a workplace that values connection and fun, from weekly sports teams and fitness clubs (Soccer, Cricket, Muay Thai, Running) through to social events like cinema nights, family BBQs, quiz nights, and celebrations of diverse cultural traditions.
- Giving Back – a strong commitment to charity, with GPA donating over $3 million directly to charitable organisations.
- Diversity & Inclusion – a team where different perspectives are encouraged, respected and collaboration drives better outcomes.

At GPA, you’ll be joining a workplace that combines the professionalism of a leading consultancy with the warmth of a supportive, people‑first culture. We’re proud that over 80 of our team members have been with us for more than 10 years – a testament to the career growth and long‑term commitment fostered here.
