This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. School Learning Support Officers may also provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre‑school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Officers working in these streams/settings have additional duties beyond the general responsibilities required. Essential Requirements - Working with Children Check Clearance - Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the role. - Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs. - Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions). Fowler Road School is a School for Specific Purpose, Intensive Learning Support (Mental Health), located in the suburb of Merrylands, South‑Western Sydney. The school has an enrolment cap of 56 students, Kindergarten to Year12, with a high representation of ATSI and EAL/D students. Collaborative partnerships with our families and wider school community are highly valued. The school maintains an active link with referring census schools of each student. We implement reasonable adjustments, individualised planning and build the skills and capacity for students with a disability to access the curriculum and school life on the same basis as their peers. SLSO staff work alongside teachers in the Fowler Road School classroom and are also involved in supporting student integration programs at local census school settings. The successful applicant will join a welcoming and supportive team environment. Specific Selection Criteria - Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. - Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities. - Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities. - Effective communication skills.
