City of Melbourne, Australia City on a Hill, Melbourne Full time

City on a Hill began with a small team and a big vision to make a difference in our world for the glory of God. Since our inception in Melbourne in 2007, we have witnessed a special work of God’s grace as he has united hundreds of men and women around the mission of ‘knowing Jesus and making Jesus known’. City on a Hill is now a movement of thirteen churches in six cities.

While our story is characterised by constant change and growth, we have maintained an enduring commitment to Christ and his call on our lives in this generation. We are committed to raising up gospel hearted leaders, to build healthy churches, which will reach and serve cities with the gospel of Jesus.
The Communications Team helps carry this mission forward by shaping how we tell our story across digital platforms, campaigns, creative content, and movement-wide communication. We work to ensure our message is clear, our tone is inviting, and our communication consistently points people to the beauty, truth, and relevance of Jesus.

This is a team that values clarity, creativity, collaboration, and thoughtful strategy. The Social Content Creator will play a key role for City on a Hill Melbourne and City on a Hill Movement in bringing our story to life online.

Location: City on a Hill Melbourne
Reports to: Communications & Creative Director
Position Type: Permanent paid position, Full-time or Part-time (as desired — ideally 3-5 days per week).

We are seeking a connector and storyteller – someone to produce engaging digital content that shares the life of our church and invites people to encounter Jesus. This role focuses on capturing and creating short-form video, social media posts, stories, and content that highlights everyday church life, testimonies, teaching, events, and key ministry moments.

The Social Content Creator will also be involved in other modes of digital communication – planning, producing, and publishing content that reflects the tone, voice, and identity of City on a Hill. They help foster healthy online engagement and strengthen how we connect newcomers, engage the spiritually curious, equip church members, and serve the broader church.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

- Planning: Developing and implementing a cohesive digital content strategy across website, social media, email, and SMS platforms, ensuring clarity, cultural engagement, and creativity across Melbourne and the Movement.
- Producing: Creating engaging digital content – including short-form videos – that captures and communicates the life and mission of City on a Hill Melbourne and the wider movement.
- Publishing: Writing clear, engaging copy and post descriptions, scheduling content across digital platforms, and maintaining consistent publishing rhythms in line with the movement’s communications calendar.
- Engaging: Engaging with online audiences through comments and messages, while monitoring platform analytics and providing insights that inform future strategy.
- Documenting: Capturing video and photography at Melbourne Sunday services, ministries, and events, as well as key movement-wide moments, to tell authentic stories of people, community, and faith.
- Projects & Campaigns: Coordinating the digital components of major Melbourne and movement-wide campaigns and initiatives, leading strategic digital projects that strengthen City on a Hill’s unity, reach, and gospel impact.
- Digital Innovation: Identifying and piloting new digital opportunities for mission by exploring emerging tools, platforms, and technologies that help us make Jesus known and increase our gospel impact.
- Team & Training: Participating actively in staff meetings and events, and equipping staff and volunteers with workflows, resources, and training for effective digital communication.

KEY SKILL, COMPETENCY AND CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

- A demonstrated love for Jesus and his people.
- Willingness to commit to the vision and mission of the church as a member of City on a Hill.
- Live a committed, prayerful, holy life of dependence on God in Christ.
- A ‘gospel confidence’ that boldly trusts in God’s saving power while seeking to innovate in order to mature existing people and reach new people through ministry.
- Proficient in copywriting, digital communication tools, and software.
- Skilled in creating short-form video content (e.g. Reels, TikTok, Shorts).
- Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Able to communicate, manage time and self-direct to manage duties effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
- Able to maintain trust and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- All City on a Hill staff must hold a current Working with Child Check, complete a National Police History Check that returns no disclosed outcomes that would exclude them from the role, and uphold the standards outlined in the City on a Hill Code of Conduct.
