Marine Technician and Mechanic Jobs in Victoria, BC Job Summary Marine Technician and Mechanic The Marine Technician and Mechanic, under the direction of the Owners, will primarily be responsible to provide support to our boat, marine teams. They will service and maintain our fleet: preventative, regular scheduled maintenance, offer emergency servicing and repairs as needed and ensure that our boats can get off the docks with minimal to no downtime during our peak season. Working in a busy, dynamic seasonal industry the Marine Technician and Mechanic will interact directly with employees, management and the public at large while supporting the general day to day operations of a fast paced customer service oriented work environment. We are seeking a dedicated and dependable professional with experience in human resources, health and safety and developing + maintaining a positive team culture to join our family. Your primary location of work will be at our (existing office) to be replaced by a brand new custom built floating office at Victoria’s historic community of Fisherman’s Wharf which will be completed sometime in April 2024. The new office affords many locations and versatile spaces to work in. Some work may occur remotely from home, this is to be discussed. Why Us? To be negotiated ($35-$50/hr) based upon proven previous experience (3 month probation period) Team - 40 – 50 employees (seasonal contracts and year round contracts for team members) - Peak season we are 45-50 team members - Off season we are up to 30 Location Various locations with majority of work to be done at Fisherman’s Wharf, Ogden Point and Canoe Cove Marina. We have storage located @ Ogden Point and a private residence in the Langford area. Schedule Full time seasonal with flexible hours throughout the fall, winter, spring seasons. More details can be discussed in person regarding expectations. Approx. 1000-1400 hours per season. Affords the applicant the ability to work elsewhere, side jobs, etc. To be discussed in more detail in person. - Medical - Parking Conservation is at the heart of everything we do. Research We support and engage in community-based research partnerships. We actively conduct and enable research on our vessels. Education We educate through the guest experience, our “Exploring the Salish Sea” education program, community outreach, our website and social media. - Marine Technician – Minimum 5+ years experience - Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. - Preference given to applicants with Volvo & CAT Diesel inboard Suzuki Outboard engines: - Volvo: D6’s, D11’s, D13’s - CAT C-18’s Suzuki outboards - DF350 – dual props - General understanding of both aluminum and fibreglass hull construction is an asset. - Professional attitude and strong work ethic. - Some administrative skills a benefit: computer, google documents and sheets (willing to learn) - Can work under pressure and under a tight timeline due to unforeseen circumstances with a busy peak season schedule (June – September) – (On-call at times). More hours during peak season with light and flexible hours fall, winter, early spring - Experience in inboard/outboard engine maintenance, service and repair. - Self motivated and flexible team player; a willingness to learn and work well with others. - Maintain high quality work standards. - Mounting and rigging experience is an asset. - Ability to complete tasks in a safe and timely manner. - Marine knowledge is not required but would be a strong asset.
