Position Information

James Busby High School is a diverse and inclusive co-educational comprehensive high school located in south-west Sydney with an enrolment of 540. Our setting includes a large and dynamic Special Education Unit comprising of 10 classes, with 96 enrolled students. We celebrate our multi-cultural student body that includes 38 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as 78% of students from a language background other than English. At James Busby HS we are committed to deliver outstanding leadership teaching and learning through our strong commitment to excellence and equity within Learning, Teaching and Leadership. We commit to practices that transform the learning lives of our students and to growth and attainment in literacy and numeracy and the Higher School Certificate by providing a curriculum that is rich, authentic and responsive to individual student needs. Selection Criteria

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

- Educational leadership experience that can significantly contribute to the effectiveness of the senior executive and executive team in proactively actioning and evaluating the SEP and department priorities to consistently strive for outstanding leadership, teaching and learning.

- Strong capacity to lead the development of data-informed, strategic approaches that successfully identify and implement practices that work best to build teacher capacity and improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students.

- Knowledge of and capacity to lead whole school, trauma-informed practices, HPGE initiatives and wellbeing programs that nurture a positive school culture that fosters inclusion and equity.

- Highly effective interpersonal skills that enable the effective management of complex issues to support students, staff and parents/carers.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
