Commercial Disputes & Insolvency - Senior Lawyer
Join our Sydney Commercial Disputes & Insolvency team as a Senior Associate. Advise on debt restructuring, banking enforcement & complex disputes.
About Us
Mills Oakley is a leading national law firm with a proud history spanning over 160 years. In that time, we’ve grown into a Top 10 Australian law firm by size while remaining true to our shared vision of exceptional client service with a friendly and collaborative ethos. Mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
The Role
Due to growth in our Sydney Commercial Disputes & Insolvency team, we are seeking a dedicated Senior Associate to join the team on a full-time basis.
In this role, you will be an integral part of a team that navigates complex legal frameworks related to corporate and debt restructuring, banking enforcement, insolvency and commercial disputes. You will work closely with financial institutions, businesses facing financial distress, insolvency experts and stakeholders involved in restructuring efforts, insolvency engagements and disputes. Your expertise will be crucial in advising clients on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, strategic decision-making, distressed situations and complex disputes.
You will have the opportunity to negotiate and draft agreements tailored to restructuring and recovery strategies, and provide critical legal counsel on insolvency-related contentious and non-contentious matters and run commercial disputes. Additionally, you will be involved in regulatory discussions, dispute resolution, litigation, and enforcement action.
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have between 5-7 years' experience in a similar role. You will have strong working knowledge of financing and security documents, security reviews (in particular advice in respect of secured creditors' rights and receivership work) and enforcement, insolvency, disputes and banking and commercial litigation. This position requires a dedicated, proactive and analytical mindset, sharp attention to detail, and commercial acumen to identify and assess legal risks and devise innovative solutions for a range of clients undergoing financial restructuring involved in insolvency processes and disputes.
Collaboration is key, as you will work alongside cross-functional teams (internally and externally), including financial advisors, industry experts, and senior executives, and with a variety of clients, ensuring seamless execution of restructuring plans and mandates and assisting with insolvency matters and disputes. You will also stay up to date with evolving legal and regulatory landscapes and trends, ensuring that clients receive the most informed, premium and strategic advice.
The ideal candidate will hold an ARITA Advanced Certificate.
