The Opportunity

As a you will work in the areas of child protection, children in care and family support. You will be responsible for:

- Responding to concerns regarding the safety and wellbeing of children and applying the provisions of the Children and Community Services Act 2004.
- Taking legal action to promote the safety and wellbeing of children where necessary.
- Undertaking case work activities of a complex nature.
- Providing services to children placed in the care of the CEO.
- Providing advice and expertise to District staff on the child safety and protection issues.
- Assisting and planning with District staff and others to develop community and family capacity to provide a safe environment for children and other vulnerable people.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge and skills in providing services and supports to families and communities to enhance safety and wellbeing.
- Investigating serious concerns about welfare and safety of children and taking appropriate action.

We are seeking to fill 4 fixed term (6 to 12 months), full-time vacancies, available for immediate commencement at the following locations:

- Banksia Hill Detention Centre (position based in Canning Vale)
- Family Court (position based in Perth CBD)
- Children’s Court (position based in Perth CBD)
- Bandyup Women’s Prison (position based in West Swan)

Role Descriptions by Location

The Banksia Co-Located Team assists young people in detention and custodial staff to understand Department processes and acts as a conduit for communication and information sharing. They assist with tasks and relationship building between young people in care and their child protection case workers.

The Family Court Co-Located Team provides information sharing between the Family Court and the Department to improve timeliness and quality of information, supporting inter-jurisdictional working arrangements and decision-making to improve child and family safety.

The Perth Children’s Court Co-Located Team represents the Department to the President of the Children’s Court and Magistrates, ensuring adequate representation of young people in care and advising on bail and court matters. The team educates and supports staff and liaises with contracted service providers to facilitate child protection practice requirements in the Justice space.

The Senior Family Links Officer at Bandyup Women’s Prison supports mothers and prison staff to understand Communities processes, facilitates communication between women in prison and case managers, and conducts risk assessment and safe management of children residing with mothers in prison.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool for this and similar fixed-term vacancies that may arise within the next 12 months.

Qualification Requirements
You must have a Bachelors degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant human services field to be eligible. All overseas qualifications must be assessed for Australian equivalency. Refer to our website for information about qualification requirements and how we assess qualifications.
