About this role

We're looking for a SMSF Accounting Manager to lead our growing team of accountants and quality consultants across Australia and India. In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of SMSF accounting, ensuring high-quality output, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture. You'll play a critical role in scaling our operations, optimising workflows, and enhancing the overall client experience.

Our Operations team at Stake spans Cash Operations, Trading Operations, KYC/AML and Stake Super across Australia, India and Brazil and you will be a key member of one of our main operations’ pillars. Stake is going through an exciting growth phase and this role will be instrumental in how we continue to uplift and refine our processes. Further responsibilities include:

- Lead all SMSF technical matters: Serve as the primary technical expert for the team, providing guidance, resolving complex queries, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Oversee end-of-financial-year (EOFY) processes: Plan, design, and maintain EOFY accounting packages and processes, coordinating effectively with auditors and internal teams to meet deadlines.
- Drive audit efficiency: Establish and continuously improve audit workflows to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure quality and compliance: Set up and manage a robust quality assurance framework to ensure all funds are reviewed thoroughly and meet internal and external standards.
- Manage ATO interactions: Handle ATO tax, GST, PAYG Withholding, and TBAR lodgements, deferral applications, phone calls, and detail updates.
- Oversee complex fund matters: Manage the processing and wrap-up of complex funds, including rollovers, wind-ups, and urgent cases.
- Optimise workflows: Continuously review and adjust priorities based on due dates, ensuring timely completion of all tasks.
- Support cross-functional teams: Collaborate with operations and customer success teams on a daily basis, and contribute to various cross-team functions including data feed testing, onboarding reviews, and product feedback.
- Leverage technology: Utilise and provide training on platforms like NowInfinity (pension, deed of retirement & appointment) and Class Super (process training, data feed management).
- Drive automation: Partner with the product team to identify and implement automation opportunities that increase team efficiency.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team: Provide strong leadership to both our Australian and Indian accounting and quality teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

A bit about you

- Proven experience as an SMSF Accountant, with significant experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Registered Tax Agent or willing to become registered with our support
- Deep technical expertise in Australian SMSF regulations, accounting standards, and ATO requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop diverse teams across multiple locations.
- Strong understanding of EOFY processes, audit workflows, and quality assurance principles.
- Experience with SMSF accounting software (e.g., Class Super)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with a strong focus on efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

At Stake, we’re more interested in your attitude than your resume. If you believe this is a role you want to jump into head first and be part of our mission, please apply and let us know why in your cover letter
