Taronga Zoo is looking for an experienced and motivated Technology Network Administrator to join our Technology team

This role plays a critical part in maintaining and improving Taronga’s network and communication infrastructure across both Taronga Zoo Sydney (Mosman) and Taronga Western Plains Zoo (Dubbo).

The position ensures reliable, secure, and efficient operation of network services and supports the organisation’s digital transformation and operational goals.

About the Role

The Technology Network Administrator is responsible for the day‑to‑day management, maintenance, and optimisation of Taronga’s network infrastructure and related systems.
This includes managing relationships with our managed service providers, supporting escalations, and ensuring network resilience across both zoo sites.
The role also serves as a backup to the Technology Officer (System Administrator), requiring hands‑on experience with systems management, including AWS, Hyper‑V, and related enterprise technologies.

- Administer, maintain, and monitor network infrastructure, including Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, and Optus systems, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.

- Manage and maintain the radio communication networks at Taronga Zoo Mosman and Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo.

- Serve as backup to the Technology Officer (System Administrator), providing operational support for enterprise systems including AWS, Hyper‑V, and Microsoft platforms.

- Liaise with and manage relationships with Taronga’s managed service providers, ensuring timely escalation and resolution of technical incidents.

- Participate in the on‑call roster to provide after‑hours technical support.

- Implement and maintain network security controls and configurations in line with organisational policies.

- Conduct regular system health checks, firmware updates, and configuration backups.

- Collaborate with the Technology team on infrastructure projects, upgrades, and service improvements.

- Contribute to documentation, procedures, and asset management of network and communications systems.

- Ensure compliance with change management, IT governance, and cybersecurity policies.

About You

We are looking for candidates that have:

- 3–5 years of experience in a Network Administrator or similar infrastructure‑focused role.

- Demonstrated experience managing Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto network technologies.

- Hands‑on experience with AWS, Hyper‑V, and system administration tasks.

- Experience managing or liaising with managed service providers (MSPs) for escalations and service delivery.

- Strong understanding of network security principles, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.

- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

- Participate in the on‑call roster and travel between Taronga sites as required.

- A current (or ability to obtain) NSW Working with Children Check (at own expense).

- A current NSW Driver’s Licence.
