As a member of the Commission's leadership group, the Director contributes significantly to the achievement of the Commission's legislated objectives and the implementation of its Strategic Plan. The Director provides leadership to the public sector through engagement with Tasmanian integrity entities and other relevant agencies to maximise investigative and educational outcomes.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties

- Lead the Complaints and Oversight Unit by setting and monitoring the Unit's strategic direction and workload;
- Manage, guide and coach individual staff based on the implementation of contemporary investigative and risk assessment processes, and an approach of continuous feedback and improvement;
- Implement and monitor compliance with the Unit's standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with case management system and evidence collection protocols;
- Ensure that output is efficient and effective and in accordance with the highest ethical and professional standards;
- Make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer about the resolution of complaints, assessments, audits and investigations and prepare reports for the Chief Executive Officer to present to the Board relating to operational work, including at the completion of investigations conducted under the Integrity Commission Act 2009;
- Oversee the preparation of assessment and investigation reports by Unit staff and the formulation of recommendations for consideration by the Chief Executive Officer;
- Lead the identification and development of matters for proposed own-motion investigations and misconduct audits to be undertaken by the Complaints and Oversight Unit, based upon analysis of misconduct risks derived through open-source research, existing complaint and notification data, and liaison with other integrity entities, and manage their conduct;
- Provide direction for the Commission's oversight of alleged misconduct by Tasmania Police, including developing and maintaining an objective and co-operative relationship with senior police;
- Oversee legal research and the provision of internal advice as required by the Chief Executive Officer, including liaison with the Office of the Solicitor-General and Director of Public Prosecutions;
- Identify, and manage the implementation of, legislative and policy changes and amendments that may be required to facilitate the Commission's complaints and oversight work;
- Develop and present continuing professional development seminars to internal stakeholders on topics of relevance to the complaints and oversight practice and collaborate with the Education and Engagement Unit in their development and delivery of relevant education and engagement initiatives;
- Develop and manage liaison relationships with senior public officers and stakeholder agencies throughout the public sector in Tasmania and assist in enhancing the public and professional profile of the Commission through the development of wide-ranging networks with integrity entities within Tasmania and other jurisdictions.

- Tertiary qualifications in law;
- Recent senior operational and management experience in an Australian integrity, anti-corruption, regulatory or prosecutions agency.
