10 PhD scholarships - Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy

The ARC Training Centre for Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy is an Australian Research Council funded, five-year research and training initiative. This Centre brings together two leading Australian universities and five forward-thinking industry partners to deliver cutting-edge research and foster the next generation of research leaders in sustainable alloy innovation. We are seeking motivated, creative, and collaborative PhD candidates who are passionate about addressing global challenges through science and engineering.

Who Should Apply

- We welcome applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, especially those with a degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related disciplines

- Applicants with prior experience in circular economy or life cycle assessment of metals or alloys will be highly competitive.

What’s on Offer

- Stipend: AUD 40,581 per annum (tax-free) for up to 3 years
- International candidates: Full tuition fee waiver (up to 4 years)
- Industry engagement through placements, co-supervision, and project collaboration

Projects

1. HDR 1 — Alloys in the Australian economy – towards circularity; Primary Supervisor: UTS
2. HDR 2 — How to drive net emission reduction through alloy design?; Primary Supervisor: UTS
3. HDR 3 — fastAlloy: accelerating assessment of recycled cast alloys; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
4. HDR 4 — fastAlloy: accelerating assessment of recycled wrought alloys; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
5. HDR 5 — High strength light alloys via solid state recycling; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
6. HDR 6 — Alloys for low energy processing; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
7. HDR 7 — Repair and recycling of Ti and rare alloys using AFSD solid state recycling; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
8. HDR 8 — Alloys that foster re-use; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
9. HDR 9 — Reducing mass in housing by new building structure solutions and manufacturing methods; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
10. HDR 10 — Design methodologies for recycling and re-use in construction; Primary Supervisor: Deakin
