The Berry Street Residential Care Program is one of the most rewarding and challenging roles you can apply for. Our roster operates 24/7, offering a variety of day shifts (7am to 11pm) and overnight shifts (11pm to 7am).
Your role
Using best practice therapeutic interventions and guidelines the main role of a Residential Care Worker is to create a safe and nurturing home environment, that provides consistent care for the young people. This includes being a positive role model, supporting young people in their educational, social, and recreational pursuits while fostering independence, as well as managing household duties and providing nutritious meals.
Your Skills and Experience
You will have sound knowledge and experience of the Out of Home Sector, and the understanding of the effects of trauma and how to care for young people who have been through this.
You will be a strong communicator, a creative thinker who is able to problem solve and able to adapt to varying situations with confidence and professionalism.

We are embarking on changing the landscape within the Out of Home Care Sector and are bringing in the Teaching Family Model of care. This uses teaching interactions, relationships and skills building which is targeted to reduce problem behaviours and increase prosocial behaviours. This model of care statistically has greater results for our young people in education, general care and reunification with family.
We believe in safety, thriving, and hope for all and strive to make this a reality every day
