Council of the City of Sydney, Australia GetUp! Full time

GetUp is looking for a Senior Campaigner with strong digital and communication skills to work on and lead our campaigns.

You will be given the opportunity to be part of a team of experienced campaigners with extensive professional growth opportunities.

Successful GetUp campaigners have a range of backgrounds and experiences including journalism, media, communications, organising, public relations, law, policy, community work, creative industries and the arts.

SCHADS Classification Level 5-6 with salary $100,783.28 - $110,110.00 per annum + superannuation depending on experience. This is an ongoing role ideally based in Sydney or Melbourne, but with an openness to great candidates located anywhere in Australia.

At GetUp, we know our capacity to drive progressive change is increased when our team has a diversity of backgrounds and experience. We are actively looking for applicants from a diverse range of genders, cultures, language groups, abilities, and experiences to apply.

WHO IS GETUP

GetUp is an independent campaigning community and movement of more than one million everyday people working to build a progressive Australia and put people back into politics.

GetUp works on a range of campaigns in the areas of First Nations Justice, Climate Justice, Economic Fairness, Human Rights and Democratic Integrity. Whatever we do – from making sure hundreds of thousands of people are able to vote, to successfully stopping major projects threatening the environment, or securing billions of dollars in new funding for mental health – we do it with as many people as possible – using their hands, hearts, and voices to fight for justice on the issues that matter most.

GetUp is currently several months into a significant rebuild following the last Federal Election. In the last few months, GetUp has been engaging more people in its campaigns and raising more money from its supporters than at any other point in the last few years, on a range of important issues from Freedom of Information to climate to gambling ads to Gaza. Hiring for a number of new roles – including this one – is a key part of that rebuild, and ensuring that GetUp is well placed to have very significant impact in the years ahead.

THE CAMPAIGNS TEAM

GetUp is full of talented campaigners who lead the organisation’s efforts to create a more progressive Australia. The campaigns team prides itself on deep strategic thinking as well as the ability to seize crucial change moments that make a massive difference on our issues.

Their days are filled with analysing the political state of play, developing long‑term and rapid‑fire strategy, engaging with politicians, media and affected communities, spotting the right moment to intervene, running impactful tactics including everything from protests to undercover investigations, writing hard‑hitting copy, and coming up with creative ways to give our members the best chance for impact.

AS A SENIOR CAMPAIGNER AT GETUP, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

- Determining and driving impactful campaign strategy in accordance with team goals and organisational strategy;

- Writing and reviewing high quality campaign content across all GetUp channels;

- Rapidly determining appropriate courses of action to the latest news and developments;

- Leading on campaign research, planning and evaluation;

- Leading on team processes and forward planning;

- Representing GetUp in the community and media;

- Supporting engagement with key stakeholders, including political offices;

- Leading from within campaigns teams to execute campaigns and meet their goals;

- Supervising other staff and/or volunteers as required.

YOU WILL BE SOMEONE WHO:

- Has a deeply held commitment to justice who is passionate about creating progressive change on a wide range of issues;

- Has strong digital skills and a willingness to learn new technologies, and who thrives in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment;

- Has strong written communication skills, adept at thinking through complex issues and communicating them simply and clearly;

- Works independently on a range of tasks and projects and takes initiative to get the job done;

- Is a team player who is always bringing off‑the‑wall, creative ideas to the table; and

- Has at least three years relevant professional experience.

BONUS POINTS FOR:

- Experience in GetUp‑style digital campaigning;

- Experience copywriting in any context;

- Experience working in the media cycle;

- Experience devising social media content; and

- Experience in campaign organising

If these criteria speak to you, you could be the perfect person for the job. Formal education, qualifications and extensive experience matter less to us than excellence, initiative and drive.

- Generous entitlements to keep you happy and healthy, including six weeks holidays per year

- Salary at Level 5-6 of the EA: $100,783.28 - $110,110.00 + superannuation and leave loading

- A hybrid and flexible work environment.

- Multiple all‑team events each year
